DEBT COUNSELLOR TRAINING COURSE (2014)
Purpose of this training programme
This program has been designed and developed for the purpose of:
Capacitating the learner with the background understanding, the need and the process of
debt counselling.
Train the learner to be competent in debt counselling and therefore be eligible to complete
the exam and register with the National Credit Regulator as a debt counsellor.
When learners have completed this programme they should be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of how and when a consumer can apply for debt review
Determine whether a consumer is over-indebted
Read and interpret credit bureau reports
Demonstrate an understanding of reckless credit
Restructure debt
Draft a consent order
Monitor consumer payments
Issue a Clearance Certificate
Behave in a professional manner in a business environment
Analyse and explain the impact of one’s personal interactive style on one’s relationship
with a client
Gather and manage information for decision making
Manage personal finance
Conduct their debt counsellors’ duties and responsibilities effectively and professionally
Register with the NCR as qualified debt counsellors
Target Audience
The program is targeted at individuals who:
Have a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent NQF level 4 qualification
Have a minimum of two years working experience in any of the following fields:






Consumer protection, complaints resolution or consumer advisory service
Legal or Para-legal services
Accounting or financial services
Educating or training individuals
Counselling of individuals
General business environment
Course Information
Duration: 10 Days
Course Structure: Each course will be run in two parts: the first five (5) days will cover the initial
theory. The subsequent five (5) days address additional theory and practical work and take the
examination
Course dates: 31 March 2014 to 4 April 2014 & 7 to 11 April 2014
Cost: R7000 per course
Registration Deadline: 15 March 2014
