Direct School Admission Exercise
Nanyang Junior College invites students with outstanding talent in CCA to apply for
Direct School Admission.
Successful applicants will gain admission into NYJC in 2014 for their JC education as
long as they met the eligibility set by MOE for the two-year Junior College Course
based on their GCE’O’ Level examinations results.
Application Procedures
1 All applicants are to register through the college online DSA portal from 13
May to 2 Aug 13 for consideration for DSA into NYJC. Hard copy registration
form is not required.
2 Applicants should indicate clearly the CCA interest; reflect achievements and
surface talent areas for considerations.
3 Applicants who have submitted on-line registration during Phase 1 but are not
offered a place need not re-submit application on-line again as the application
will be considered for both phases.
4 To give adequate time to students in preparing for the DSA trials and auditions, it
is strongly recommended that all on-line applications are submitted well in
advance of the official deadline.
5 It is the applicant’s responsibility to provide accurate and complete information
during on-line registration. An applicant found with false declaration will be
rejected immediately.
6 Applicants will be required to provide hard copy of documents for verification
during audition/ trial and upon successful admission. The documents required are
as follows:
• Certified copy of Secondary 3 End-of-Year and/or Secondary 4 Midyear results
• Certified copy of CCA Records
• Relevant certifications and records of achievement in national
competitions related to area of talent
7 Shortlisted students will be called for audition/ trial if they meet the
eligibility stated in the following table. They will be then be evaluated by
coach/instructor/teacher-in-charge during trial/audition and/or interviewed by CCA
teacher in-charge.
8 Successful candidates will further be contacted by the college through
telephone call.
9 All results of application can be checked on the on-line DSA portal from 19 Aug
to 22 Aug 13.

Applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria will be shortlisted for
trials/ auditions.

• Representatives of Singapore Schools (formerly
known as Combined School Team);
Table Tennis
• Representatives of recognised Sports Club
• Players from top 4 teams at Zonal and National
Level

1st Team player of a school’s team
Judo
Niche’ Aesthetics
Symphonic Band
Guzheng
Chinese Orchestra
Choir
Chinese Drama
Contemporary
Dance
Shortlisted students for Sports CCAs should turn up in
sports attire, and/or equipment and be ready to be
tested in individual skills and/or games situation during
trial.
Eligibility Criteria
• Achievement in National Music/Drama Competition
and/or National Competitions
• Achievement in SYF (minimum Certificate of
accomplishment)
• Quality Grade in a music exam for a specific
instrument or in a dance exam
• Key performers of school’s team
Shortlisted students for the Performing Arts will usually
need to prepare an item of not more than 2 min unless
otherwise stated on the college web-site.

Selection Criteria
1) Satisfying the above mentioned criteria does not guarantee successful
admission into NYJC as admission is also based on the performance
evaluation by teacher in-charge and instructor/coach during audition.
2) The panel will considered the following areas:

Years of Experience, how applicant can value-add to the CCA and
achievement of student in the talent area.
The student’s talent meets the needs of the college CCA.
Attitude & aptitude demonstrated by student during trial/audition and/or
interview/dialogue.
Important DSA Pointers
1) Each student can apply concurrently to many JCs and polytechnics but
can only accept 1 DSA offer.
2) Students who have been successfully allocated to a school via DSA-JC
Exercise are also not allowed to transfer to another school after the
release of the GCE “O” Level examination results as they are expected
to honour their commitments to their posted DSA-JC schools.
3) Student who has accepted a DSA offer but wishes to take part in JAE
and JPSAE 2014 must submit their withdrawals personally at MOE
Customer Service Centre by 11 Oct 2013, 5pm.
Advantage
1) Student is not bounded by the cut-off point of a JC.
