RealPresence Capture Server Release Notes
Polycom RealPresence Capture Server Appliance Edition Release Notes
This is the first release of the Polycom RealPresence Capture Server - Appliance Edition(herein
RealPresence Capture Server). The RealPresence Capture Server is a network appliance that
participates in standards-based video and telepresence calls, converting the video and content in those
calls into live streams (for live viewing on devices with compatible web browsers) as well a video-ondemand archives for playback on video conferencing systems and devices with compatible web
browsers, including tablets, smart phones, PCs, and MAC desktops.
The RealPresence Capture Server version 1.0 is typically deployed as part of a larger Polycom
RealPresence Platform, but it can be used stand-alone. The Real Presence Capture Server’s full
potential can best be realized when integrated with the Polycom RealPresence Media Manager.
This document provides the latest information for the RealPresence Capture Server and covers the

Difference between RealPresence Capture
Server and RSS™ 4000
The RealPresence Capture Server has many capabilities in common with the Polycom RSS 4000, but the
Capture Server has some important feature differences. For example, the RealPresence Capture Server
1.0 does not support these RSS 4000 features:
• Microsoft Lync server – RSS 4000 can register to, and call or be called by Lync 2010 directly (it has
RTV) - but does not do native Lync content.
• Multi-point recording – RSS 4000 can record two endpoints without a MCU.
Polycom, Inc.
-2-
RealPresence Capture Server Release Notes
• Max security mode – RSS 4000 can be put into a max security mode (a formal "JITC" release
requires special SKU and version 6.9 only). Capture Server doesn't offer max security mode nor a
JITC compliance version.
• Predetermined VRR – RSS4000 can be configured to always use a pre-programmed "known"
stream URL for live streams.
• Microsoft Active Directory Server (LDAP) – RSS 4000 can be configured to use Microsoft AD to
manager user permissions (limitations apply).
• Microsoft Exchange Server – RSS 4000 can be configured to use PCO with Exchange (limitations
apply).
• Quick code Playback for archives – RSS 4000 can play videos back to an endpoint using numeric
QuickCodes. Capture Server does not do QuickCodes.
• WMV media format including WMV uni /multicast (with option) live streaming and VoD. RSS 4000
can record and live stream Windows Media (unicast and multicast) or mp4 (H.264). RealPresence
only supports record and live stream mp4.
• Encode WMV to external Windows Media Server. RSS 4000 can record and live stream Windows
Media (unicast and multicast) or mp4 (H.264). RealPresence Capture Server can not 1.0 only
supports record and live stream mp4 (H.264).
• RSS4000 supports People video up to 720p60 (option enables 1080P30) and Content at XGA 7f/s
(option enables content at 720p 15f/s - but HDX cannot achieve this). RealPresence Capture
Server supports People video at a maximum of 720P30 video and content at 720p 15f/s.
• Removed the Allowed Users/Group tab in Edit VRR dialog. An administrator of VRR owner can
grand users or groups pesrmission to view or modify archives or live streaming when editing an
archive.

When an Aethra X7 system sends Dual Video to RealPresence Capture Server at 384kbps in an
H.323 call, RealPresence Capture Server continues to show video only both on live streaming and
recording while the call statistics on Aethra shows that it is sending content. The same symptom
does not happen at call rates other than 384 kbps.
Workaround: None.
External Meida Server
3580
When using a Windows Server with IIS Media Services, retranscoding an archive will create a
new ISMV file, but the new .ism and .ismc files cannot be uploaded to its IIS media server if the
old .ism and .ismc files exist.
Workaround: Delete the old .ism and .ismc files and then transcode ISMV files.
3574
(IIS media server, iOS6) Live streaming below 1024Kbps may has no video, only has audio.
Workaround: None.

Workaround: None.
2891
If a Polycom RMX system uses a recording link to live stream in a SIP VSW conference with a
Polycom HDX system RealPresence Capture Server always records at the secondary rate when
the conference line rate is set as 128 kbps, 256 kbps, or 384 kbps.
Workaround: None.
2890
After you record a content-sharing call at 1024 kbps or higher between a Polycom HDX system
and a Polycom® PVX® system, you cannot find the recording from the View All Archives in the
RealPresence Capture Server TV UI.
Workaround: None.
2888
During a 1920 kbps H.323 call between RealPresence Capture Server and the SONY PCS-XG80
system (Version 2.34.00), if the PCS-XG80 starts and then stops sending content, RealPresence
Capture Server stops receiving the content accordingly but cannot switch to the people video. A
black screen appears instead.
Workaround: None.
2889
During an H.323 call between RealPresence Capture Server and the SONY PCS-XG80 system
(version 2.34.00), if the SONY PCS-XG80 starts then stops sending content, the call connection is
automatically terminated after RealPresence Capture Server stops receiving content and switches
to receive people video for around 90 seconds
Workaround: None.
2887
Even if the RadVision Scopia XT1000 system sends DualVideo (H.239-based People and
Content) to the RealPresence Capture Server in an H.323 call, RealPresence Capture Server
continues showing the people video only.

Server is connected from MGC.
Workaround: None.
Playback
3316
You cannot play an archive whose duration is longer than seven hours at one time.
Workaround: Play this archive again after a while.
2903
On RMX1000 2.1.2 RecordingLinks, the Receive Video Frame Rate of the recording falls below
25fps when H.264 4CIF/4SIF is used as the people video resolution.
Workaround: None.
RAID 10 Hardware Storage Array
3548
When RealPresence Capture Server is running and one or more hard disks malfunction or stop
working, the RAID status on the Admin UI does not change, it is still normal.
Workaround: When a hard disk does not work, a notification email will be sent to the specified
address. You will also see a pop up message indicating failed hard disks in the Admin UI. You
need to replace failed hard disks and reboot RealPresence Capture Server, the RAID status will
change to Degraded or the system will go to the recovery mode in case of RAID failure.
3545
If you replace a failed hard disk with an used hard disk with RAID information, RealPresence
Capture Server cannot recover the used hard disk.
Workaround: Polycom provides a spare hard disk in the case of a failure – use this spare hard
disk to replace a failed drive.
SIP
2894
If a Polycom RMX system uses a recording link to live stream a SIP call (call rate: 128 kpbs - 384
kpbs) with a Polycom HDX system, the Video out frame rate shown on the RMX side is
significantly lower than the call rate.
Workaround: None.
2853
When you place a SIP call to a pre-configured conference on Codian MCU 4505 (version 4.3
(2.30)) with a SIP URI dialing in a format <conference ID>@<IP address>, call connection
cannot be completed.
Workaround: If you would like to directly dial in to a pre-configured conference on Codian MCU
4505 from an endpoint using a conference ID, you need to register both Codian MCU 4505 and
the endpoint to the same SIP registrar server..
2805
RealPresence Capture Server supports BFCP over TCP only and the far end systems that
support BFCP work only on BFCP over UDP if dual stream in SIP failed.
Workaround: Use 3rd party devices that support BFCP over TCP.
2526
Polycom RealPresence Mobile clients cannot use DTMF to control RealPresence Capture Server
when the call is via SIP.

Interoperability
Your Polycom RealPresence Capture Server systems are tested extensively with a wide range of
products. The tables in this sectiondo not list a complete inventory of compatible equipment; the table
only list the products that have been tested for compatibility.
Video conferencing systems use a variety of algorithms to compress audio and video. In a call between
two systems, each end transmits audio and video using algorithms supported by the other end. In some
cases, a system may transmit a different algorithm than it receives. This process occurs because each
system independently selects the optimum algorithms for a particular call, and different products may
make different selections. This process does not affect the quality of the call.
