The Accountancy Department in BatStateU was opened in 1999 and it has produced 11 batches of graduates since
then.
BatStateU became a consistent top 3 performing school nationwide for two consecutive CPA Licensure
Examinations in 2004- Both in the 10-25 bracket. To top that, the school was able to produce its very first CPA
topnnotcher in the person of Dimayuga Marjurie who landed 16th place.
BatStateU reclaimed the top 3 slot after four years during the May 2008 examination and after another leap year,
BatStateU nailed its highest passing rate of 86.21% for CPA’s with a national passing rate of 47.78% in the
October 2012 examination- 25 passers over 29 takers.
A testimonial ceremony for the new CPA’s was held at the Amphitheatre, CITE Building, GPB Main Campus I
on November 2014 to inspire upcoming graduates and other young accountancy students to never pull their
punches when its already their turn to conquer the arena called CPA Licensure Examination.
From Late Bloomer to a PICPA STaR
Batangas State University snatched a win from numerous schools of 8 chapters in Region IV-A in one of the
categories of the 2014- 2015 Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants Southern Tagalog Regional
Accounting Quiz Bowl (PICPA STaR).
The representative from BatStateU bagged
the championship title in the Level 2
Catergory-all CPA board subjects-held at
San Pablo Colleges and hosted by IRRIUniversity of the Philippines Los Banos
Chapter last February 27. His name is Ian
Kier J. Valencia who also took home P3,000
cash prize and a gold medal from the said
competition.
In terms of intelligence, Valencia was on a
league of his own, said BatStateU coach
Daniel John Falo. Falo added that he only
provided the young one with the proper
materials and enough moral support and if
ever there was anything lacking, he was confident that Valencia got it covered. Nobody got to prove the coach
wrong because of the bacon his student brought home. He also remembers countless of times Valencia turned
down an invitation to dine together with his peers because the former was truly the house-school-house type of
person who, most of all, doesn’t want to be disturbed once he started honing his accounting skills alone in his
room.
Valencia, 21, is the second of two
children. Both his parents are teachers
which according to him, put enough
academic pressure on his shoulders for as
long as he could remember.
A late bloomer, he regretted not taking his
studies seriously in his early years in
college. Nevertheless, he gave the top
performers in the class a run for their
money when he started earning the
highest scores in most major examinations
during his senior years. On top it all, he
edged out thousands of undergraduates in
the recently concluded CPA Mock Board
Examination last February as he swept the
1st place in the whole region.
A Steep Climb to the Top
Chosen Financial Management students from
Batangas State University Main Campus I landed
the 5th place in the 4th Ysmael V. Baysa Finance Cup
held at Enverga University, Lucena City last
January 16, 2015.
13 teams from seven prestigious schools- Sacred
Heart College (2 teams), Cavite State University –
Imus Campus (2 teams), BatStateU Malvar (2
teams), PUP Lopez (2 teams), Lipa City Colleges (2
teams), BatStateU Lipa, (2 teams) and BatStateU
Main Campus I (1 team)- battled it all for
supremacy, but only five came out victorious.
The person behind it all, Mr. Ysmael V. Baysa, shared his personal experiences about finance during his early
years. In his narration, he highlighted that there is a need to do things perfectly no matter how little it was. This
he practiced when he was still a bookkeeper which exemplified his accuracy in making journal entries up to the
last cent. At present, he perfectly closes financial statements by applying the same principles to his dealings as an
accountant. Truly, he has the right stuff to back up his last words to ponder- “Do things perfectly the first time”.
Those words sounded like a glorious gunfire which later led to the formal start of the competition.
At the end of the game, Lipa City Colleges successfully stole the cup from an expectant hall of famer which is
PUP. Cavite State University – Imus Campus ranked 3rd place followed by __________ at 4th and finally,
Batangas State University Main Campus I proudly standing at 5th place.
“The battle was hard-fought and the win was hard-earned”, said Mrs. Annaliza Manalo, Coach. According to her,
their team had the right materials and the right people but the competition proved to be a steep climb to the top
specially the long problem solving which was made worse by a strict time constraint.
“The team plans to join again next
year but a promise to grab the first
place is still something I can’t give”,
said Manalo. “Nevertheless, if that
golden opportunity presents itself,
you can expect our team to grab it
and never let it go without a fight”,
she finished.
A Cup of Coffee with Korina
The 12th Politikapekonomiya of the Economic Students
Society (ESS) climbed several notches this year which was
brought about by the presence of the one and only Mrs.
Korina Sanchez-Roxas as one of its invited experts last
February 13, 2015 at the Gov. Feliciano "Sanoy" Leviste
Memorial Multi-Purpose Gymnasium.
The event was tagged as the grandest Politikapekonomiya
since 2005 which catered to thousands of participants who
came to Batangas State University Main Campus I from
different parts of Batangas Province-Rizal College of Taal,
Mabini College of Batangas, AMA Computer Learning
Center, BatStateU SanJuan, BatStateU Rosario, Golden Gate
College, university of Batangas, and different colleges in
BatStateU Main Campus I.
“Politikapekonomiya takes pride in its consistent objective of nurturing a broad awareness on current political and
economic issues that are at large in the country”, said ESS Adviser, Edgar Mendoza. “Invited experts from
concerned fields come over and become eye-openers for students, motivating them to ask and share their opinion
freely over a warm cup of coffee”, Mendoza added.
The celebrated undertaking fostered the theme “For Better or for Worse: In the Midst of a Nation in Doubt” which
brought to spotlight the Philippine Security in the ASEAN Integration for the economic topic and Politicians’
Integrity in Question for the political topic.
Sanchez, who was very much elated from the warm welcome, shared to the participants her five keys to successfaith in God, self-confidence, service of parents, respect for parents, and charity or what she called ‘giving back’
for every blessing one receives.
According to her, her giving away slippers from north to south is her way of ‘giving back’, an advocacy she
started which has now reached far corners of the country with the help of his supportive husband, Senator Mar
Roxas.
“Honey, pengeng money”, Sanchez said kidding around. She said she always says this to her husband every time
she has to visit a place and give away slippers to public school children.
“Don’t get me wrong”, Sanchez followed up as if dismissing some misleading thoughts from the audience. She
clarified that she enjoys financial independence like working Japanese women and she is proud of herself and
other Filipinas like her. She pointed out that if it is not for charity, she will not ask for a single cent from her
husband, the senator.
Sanchez’ display of integrity and self-confidence earned her a resounding applause from the audience which was
proof that inviting her was worth the time and effort every ESS member, faculty and staff has put in.
The ball rolling didn’t stop there for the ESS because in the recently concluded 2 nd Gawad Pablo Borbon: Search
for the Best Student Activity last March, the 12th Politikapekonomiya won the organization the trophy for Best
Special Interest Activity. Clearly this was an achievement worthy of an explosive year-ender not only for the ESS
but for the whole CABEIHM Department as a whole.
