Heifer International’s mission is to work
with communities to end world hunger
and poverty and to care for the Earth.
Heifer does more than just offer
families a one-time gift. Heifer provides
empowerment. Animals provide families
with food and income, as byproducts can
be traded or sold.
Our ultimate goal is self-reliance. We
provide the tools families need to run
a successful business and to provide
for their children. With more income,
communities are able to build schools,
fund small businesses and create
agricultural cooperatives.

- Almost 870 million people around the world do not have enough food.
- Heifer has helped more than 20.7 million families conquer hunger.
- Heifer believes in “passing on the gift” - giving the first female offspring of donated
animals to other families in need. On average, “passing on the gift” can be traced for nine
generations.
- Animals have been sent to more than 30 countries to help create new lives for
impoverished people.
