About Robinson Healthcare
Ethical Policy and the Environment
Robinson Healthcare has an established reputation as one of the
leading manufacturers of healthcare products in the UK, providing
medical professionals with products they can trust. The Instrapac®
range of single use surgical instruments was introduced in 2002 and
remains the product of choice for numerous healthcare professionals
throughout the UK.
Robinson Healthcare operates to high ethical standards and is
independently audited to the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code
and the Labour Standards Assurance System (LSAS), a mandatory
requirement of NHS Supply Chain.
Almost all Robinson Healthcare products are produced in a UK
manufacturing facility near Worksop in Nottinghamshire. The company
operates a large Class 7 cleanroom with sterile packaging facilities,
two large autoclaves for product sterilisation and on-site laboratories
to support product development, production and continued
compliance with standards.

Quality, Legislation and Standards
Compliance with legislation and standards is fundamental to Robinson
Healthcare’s philosophy. It is a legal requirement for all medical devices
to comply with the Medical Devices Directive 93/42 EEC and carry the
CE mark. Single use instruments are Class lla devices and therefore
subject to greater levels of regulatory control than most reusables,
which are Class l devices and can be sold without authorisation from
an independent third party (Notified Body), such as the British Standards
Institution (BSI).
Independent certification by BSI verifies that medical devices produced
by Robinson Healthcare meet fully the requirements of the Medical
Devices Directive. Compliance with the following standards and having
current certification is critical to the process of CE marking sterile
medical devices:
• BS EN ISO13485:2003 – Quality Management Medical Devices.
• Medical Devices Directive Annex V Product Quality Assurance –
this is the most critical document and is issued by an independent third
party (Notified Body) such as BSI and demonstrates that the facilities
and systems necessary to secure and maintain the sterility of a
product meet the required standards.
