CONTEST LOCATION: Red River College – Notre Dame Campus – J214
NOTE:
Secondary level: 2 competitors per school. Maximum secondary students 11
Post-Secondary level: 3 competitors per school. Maximum post-secondary students 5
CONTEST START TIME AND DURATION: 4 hours, starting at 8:30 AM after
registration.
PURPOSE OF CHALLENGE:
•
To evaluate each contestant’s preparation for employment in the field of
Engineering Design and Drafting.
•
Assess the contestant’s skills in performing design and drawing tasks using
computer aided design and drafting

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO BE TESTED:
•
Understand and use fundamental commands for 3D parametric models and
animated assembly drawings.
•
Use CAD software to produce drawings that comply with the following standards:
- CAN3-B78.1 –M83(R2002)
- CAN/CSA-b78.2-M91(R2002)
- B97.3-M1982(R2002)
Standards will be available for student reference during the competition.
•
Use CAD software to produce a 3D parametric model and fully dimensioned
shop drawings from an existing object.
•
Produce an assembly drawing complete with the bill of materials.
•
Produce 3rd angle projection and assembly drawing complete with the Bill of
Materials plus animation file (Post-Secondary)

WORKSITE SAFETY RULES / REQUIREMENTS:
None required
NATIONAL COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY:
•
A mark of 70% or higher must be scored by the gold medalist in each contest in
order for them to attend the National Skills Competition
THE IMPORTANCE OF ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR CAREERS IN THE
SKILLED TRADES;
Essential skills are used in nearly every job and at different levels of complexity. They
provide the foundation for learning all other skills and enable people to evolve with their
jobs and adapt to workplace change. Good Essential Skills means you will understand
and remember concepts introduced in technical training. The level of Essential Skills
required for most trades is as high as or higher than it is for many office jobs.
