College activities do not end upon graduation. The Seneca College Alumni
Association continues to make services available to its members, including:
alumni magazine; benefit packages with specially designed car, home, and

COUNSELLING
As you prepare to make career choices Seneca Counsellors can help you
explore your options and examine important issues. As a student at Seneca
you will find Counselling support to clarify your interests, aptitudes, needs and
values, as you make additional vocational and academic decisions.
Through events like professional development seminars, socials, sporting
events, and reunions, you make valuable business contacts, keep abreast of
industry innovations and maintain friendships with both classmates and
college instructors.
All graduates of full-time post-secondary programs are automatically lifetime
members. Your membership fee entitles you to participate in all alumni
services, activities and benefits.

BOOKSTORES AND COMPUTER STORE
A new term starts and suddenly you’ve got shopping lists...books, supplies,
software...everything you will need is right on campus. From textbooks to Tshirts, binders to bus tickets, your campus store has it all. Each campus
store offers extended hours at the beginning of each semester along with
scheduled book buyback times, return privileges and various payment options,
plus a friendly and knowledgeable staff to help you with your shopping

postings and full IT support are just a few of the benefits at your disposal.

COLLEGE PARKING FEES
Parking space is available at the College on a limited basis. A daily parking
fee is charged (at most campuses).
Drivers requiring in/out privileges must have the daily receipt validated when
entering. A day receipt is not valid after 5 p.m.
As a Seneca student, you may develop personal concerns around self-confidence,
stress or relationships. Sometimes problems with motivation and achievement
may arise. Counsellors will help you deal with the inter-related demands of
personal and academic responsibilities.
Confidential appointments with professional counsellors are available to
prospective students at most Seneca campuses.
DISABILITY SERVICES
If you are learning disabled, mobility impaired, blind or visually impaired, deaf
or hard of hearing, or are coming from a school where you used a “resource
room” to assist you in your studies, you may require special assistance.
Disability Services Counsellors can assist you in the following ways:
• assess your special needs to determine appropriate accommodations
• liaise with your academic department and other on-campus services
• assist faculty to respond to your special needs
• offer supportive counselling
• advocate on your behalf
• assist in securing tutors, note takers, exam invigilators, etc.
To receive assistance for special needs, contact must be initiated by the
student. Early self-identification is encouraged to ensure that reasonable
accommodations can be made prior to the commencement of classes.
Information about your special needs is confidential, and will only be relayed
with your permission to those people who need to know how to best assist
you.

FITNESS CENTRE
Newnham Campus - The Fitness Centre at Newnham Campus is a 6000
square foot facility, located adjacent to the Senecentre in the lower level of
the Sports Centre. Students, staff and community members are provided
with the finest in fitness programming. Members can use the centre seven
days per week and take advantage of the strength and circuit training
equipment, treadmills, stairmasters, recumbent and upright bikes, rowers,
elliptical crosstrainers and free weights. Regularly scheduled fitness classes
come with your membership. Memberships also include on-going fitness
evaluations and individualized fitness programs by our certified staff.
Registrations are taken throughout each semester, so drop by the centre
anytime and begin your semester of fitness and fun. For more information,

Seneca@York - The Fitness Centre at Seneca@York is located in the Recreation
Centre. Run on a cost-recovery/program fee basis, the centre is a student
facility that offers a variety of conditioning equipment including free weights,
circuit training, stairmasters, aerobics and step aerobics. For a brisk walk or
jog try out our new jogging track. Drop by the Recreation Centre to begin

FOOD SERVICES
Large, pleasant cafeterias serve most campuses of Seneca College. Service
is provided for both day and evening students. Meal cards are available at the
food outlets for purchase, at the main campuses.
Many of our roadways are fire routes and, as such, are governed by local bylaws. Unauthorized vehicles or illegal parking will result in the issuance of
parking tickets (fines) and possibly towing the vehicle off the site. The security
and parking department has no alternative but to ensure that the College
parking policy is properly enforced.

HEALTH CENTRE
The Seneca Health Centre offers complete medical services to students,
staff, faculty and community. The Health Centre is located at Newnham
Campus, room 2652 and Seneca@York Campus, room 1196.
Our team of professionals includes:

HOUSING (OFF CAMPUS)
Seneca College maintains an Off-Campus Housing Registry for student
reference, which is accessible through the Seneca College website at
www.senecac.on.ca/housing. For assistance or for computer access to the
registry, students can come to the Student Services offices at Newnham, King,
Seneca@York and Don Mills. This self-help service provides students with a
listing of a variety of affordable types of accommodation to meet their needs
during the school year. The rooms, apartments, townhouses and houses, are
all located within reasonably close proximity to the College campuses. For

Seneca College is unable to check accommodation being offered and cannot
vouch for the competence or reliability of the landlords or the tenants (students) and does not recommend, monitor or evaluate any of the landlords or
tenants. The responsibility rests with the landlord or tenant to investigate
these matters.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND TELECOMMUNICATION
RESOURCES
Students at Seneca College are supported with high quality and accessible
Information Technology resources and services. Each campus provides
access to a wide variety of general purpose and specialized computing
laboratories. Each campus also provides access to a physical or on-line
Learning Commons (including open access microcomputing centres) where
students can access electronic resources for writing, research and curriculum
purposes. Teams of support personnel consisting of help desk technical and
learner support specialists, librarians and faculty, ensure that relevant materials
and services are available to every student.
Students at Seneca College receive personal e-mail accounts, one-card
services for identification and access to printers and photocopying, and dial-in
access (full time students only), to College networks and the World Wide
Web. SIRIS (the Student Internet Registration and Information System) gives
students individual web browser access to register for subjects, customize
timetables, access their financial accounts, view academic records and perform
diploma subject audits.
In open microcomputing centres, students are able to access general (e.g.
email, word processing, spreadsheet) and specialized software applications.
Available specialized software is dependent on the campus and the academic
requirements and offerings at a particular campus. All College computers
have full internet access. Students living in residence may bring personal
computers to the College and connect them to the College network (ethernet
card required) to receive e-mail and web services. Student Help Desk services
are available to students via the web, in-person (Seneca@York and Newnham)
and via telephone.

The Business, Technology, Computer Studies, and Communication Arts
Faculties offer access to specialized computer software and hardware such
as SAP enterprise resource planning software, IBM RISC-6000 servers, CAD
systems, graphics, digital video editing and animation systems.
My.Seneca is a new one-stop online resource providing access to course
materials, the option to look up resources and the tools to communicate
with faculty/instructors and other students. Utilizing Portal Technology,
My.Seneca is customizable so that clients can get just the information that
they want. My.Seneca is available to all students of the College on-site and
remotely.
LAB SCHOOL AND CHILD CARE CENTRE
Graduates of Seneca College can now benefit from the Newnham and King
Campus based Lab Schools and Child Care Centres.
A mix of excellent facilities are provided, which are clean, bright, and well
equipped. Professional and dedicated staff share their personal warmth and
enthusiasm with the children, who receive high quality child care. The Lab
Schools provide a model for the education of the adult students working
toward obtaining their qualification for the field of Early Childhood Education
(E.C.E.).
The faculty continue to be involved in the Lab School in their role as resource
to the Lab School staff for the continuous evaluation and development of our
E.C.E. program.
Lab School staff are specially selected to demonstrate excellence with
respect to the provision of high quality child care as well as the training of
E.C.E. students.
If you are interested in our program, you are welcome to visit our centres,
which serve as models to the E.C.E. community.
Child care spaces are available for infants, toddlers, preschool and kindergarten
children at King Campus, and for toddler, preschool and kindergarten children
at the Newnham Campus.

LEARNING COMMONS
Seneca College has a Library and Learning Commons at the King, Newnham
and Seneca@York campuses and a Library under development at the new
Markham campus. The Learning Commons is a one-stop facility for students,
staff and faculty combining the Library, Audio-Visual Services, Learning
Centre and Computing Commons.
Services and resources are available at each campus, as well as online from

Each of the Libraries offer all students, faculty and staff both print and electronic resources. Resources include thousands of books, magazines, journals, videos, slides, recordings and the latest electronic databases,
supporting Seneca’s course and research assignments. Types of services
offered include a 24 hour Internet Reference Service ‘Ask the Library’, a Live
Reference Chat Service ‘Ask Us Now’, web database searching, subject-specific links to valuable web sites, our Book/Serial/Media catalogue, and a webbased booking system for tutoring appointments.
The Audio-Visual Services departments provide an extensive collection of
video and media resources for classroom use. Also available is a variety of
equipment such as digital cameras, computer projectors, TV/VCRs, video
cameras, laptop computers, CD/tape recorders and more.
There are Learning Centres located at our King, Newnham and Seneca@York
campuses that offer tutoring and academic assistance to all students. This
service is offered in partnership with faculty advisors, student advisors and
tutors, who ensure students receive the assistance they need in a friendly
and supportive environment.
Student Services
The Computing Commons provides computer workstations equipped with
instructional software and information resources that support course curriculum
and are supported by library and information technology staff. A student
doing an assignment in the Learning Commons can check databases, “surf
the Internet”, use courseware, consult a manual, seek research or computer
advice, and be tutored without leaving their workstation or our facility.
SMOKE FREE ENVIRONMENT

As a full-time student, you pay an activity fee which goes to support your
elected student government. The objective of the student government is to
provide programs, services and activities to meet your interests and needs.
For example, Seneca has its own student newspaper, The Buzz, and a campus radio station operating out of the Newnham Campus. Seneca@York
operates a student space, “The Hive”. The four local student councils Newnham, Seneca@York, King and Don Mills - organize many activities
throughout the year.
LOCKERS
Lockers may be rented for a nominal fee on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each locker is equipped with a combination lock, which remains the property
of the College. Lockers at the Seneca@York and Newnham campuses can be
rented online. Log on to my.senecacollege.ca. Payment can be made by
credit card (Visa, Amex, MasterCard), or by cash if paying in person.
OMBUDSPERSON
The Ombudsperson is committed to helping achieve a fair outcome to
problems or complaints about College policies, procedures or practices if
they have not been resolved through the College’s regular procedures or
channels.
The Ombudsperson provides a service to students and employees of the
College that is confidential, objective, impartial, independent and accessible.
The Ombudsperson is your last resort, offering help when the regular channels
of appeal have been exhausted.

Make an appointment to visit the Ombudsperson in Room D4024 at the
Newnham Campus or at a pre-arranged location at any other College campus
at a time that is mutually agreeable.
RESIDENCES FOR STUDENTS
The College has a 1000-bed residence at Newnham campus and a 233-bed
residence at King campus. Both facilities are operated by Campus Living
Centres. Each 400 square foot furnished unit contains two bedrooms,
washroom and kitchenette, with full voice and data communication links. In
addition, the buildings contain group study rooms on each floor, and larger
meeting and activity rooms on the main floor. Residences are smoke free
environments.

SENECENTRE
Operated by the students at the Newnham campus the Senecentre is the
campus focal point of student activities. The facilities and services include:
Looneys, Missing Link (student pub), CRSC (radio station), Games room,
meeting rooms, and offices for the Student Federation Council. The “Hive” at
the Seneca@York campus is the centre for student activities at that campus.
The mandate is to provide facilities, services and activities which respond to
the diverse needs of the campus community. The Senecentre provides many
part-time job opportunities for students. A $5.00 maintenance fee for the
Senecentre is charged each semester to students in full time programs at
the Newnham Campus.
Seneca College is a fully a smoke-free environment. This applies to all
College locations.
STUDENT GOVERNMENT
The Seneca Student Federation Inc. (SSF) is the incorporated body that
represents all full-time students. The President of the corporation is selected
from the local council of presidents, through an election process.
Elections for the local councils are held in March of each year, with by-elections
in October. Training is provided and it is an excellent way to learn new skills,
meet new people, and get involved in College life. By getting involved in
student council, you not only develop leadership skills but you also become
eligible for one of the many leadership scholarships available at Seneca.
There are also many student associations and clubs to meet the interests of
a diverse group of students.
STUDENT SERVICES CENTRES
The Student Services Centres, located at Newnham, King and Seneca@York
campuses, provide a variety of resources and programs to enhance the
academic process and improve the quality of student life. Services offered
by Student Services include: housing and transportation information, student

THE RESOLUTION, EQUITY AND DIVERSITY CENTRE
VARSITY ATHLETICS AND RECREATION AT SENECA
The Resolution, Equity and Diversity Centre (REDC) is responsible for
communicating the standards of behaviour, as defined by Policy and legal
statute, expected within Seneca College for all employees, students, clients,
contractors and the public. The REDC provides confidential advice, counsel,
referral, consultation, mediation, investigative and resolution assistance to all
individuals or groups in conflict covered by a college policy and/or statutory
obligation. The REDC is mandated to implement prevention, intervention and
resolution strategies such as awareness, education and training, as well as
mediation, informal/formal resolution processes. The REDC is mandated to
maintain a respectful, accessible, safe and inclusive environment.
Join the ACTION with the all-time winningest varsity sports teams in Ontario
College Sports History! Whether on the field, court or in the bleachers, the
SENECA STING offer exciting Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA)
action! The Athletic & Recreation Department ensures a quality experience
by providing first class facilities, top-notch coaching and provincial, national
and international competition. As a result of the Student Athletic Association’s
(SAA) fundraising, student- athletes are eligible for scholarships as recognition
for their dedication and commitment to their varsity and academic program.

The Seneca Sting offer fourteen varsity teams in the OCAA; eight of which
lead to national championships. Varsity teams include: Badminton, Men’s and
Women’s Basketball, Cross Country Running, Curling, Women’s Fastball,
Men’s and Women’s Indoor Soccer, Rugby, Skiing, Men’s and Women’s
Outdoor Soccer, and Men’s and Women’s Volleyball.
Special promotions are run throughout the varsity season, providing fans and
bleacher creatures with the opportunity to win great prizes and become part
of the action. So come on out and become part of the Seneca Sting Family.
Schedules are posted on our website (www.senecac.on.ca/varsity) and on
boards throughout the college.
Campus Recreation offers “Fun, Fitness and Friendship” through a variety of
recreational programs. Choose from a wide range of programs, including
intramural leagues, instructional classes, special events, tournaments, clubs,
intercampus challenges and extramural tournaments. Just a few of the
activities available are the Active Living Challenge, badminton, basketball,
beach volleyball, bowling, dragon boat, flag football, golf, indoor soccer, ball
hockey, ice hockey, volleyball and 3-pitch. All activities are co-ed and all students are welcome to participate!
Athletics & Recreation offers a variety of student leadership and part time
opportunities. Students are involved as convenors, instructors, officials, timers,
scorers, statisticians, gym supervisors, office assistants, game promotion
coordinators and council representatives. Whether you want to earn a little
extra money or gain some valuable experience, Athletics & Recreation may
be the place for you!
