COURTS AND TRIBUNALS
FELLOWSHIP SCHEME
The Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT) offers a unique
opportunity for parliamentarians to gain a greater
understanding of the UK’s legal and judicial systems, and to
learn more about the effect law has on businesses.
This new scheme for 2015 will provide parliamentarians with
the opportunity to spend five days at the Royal Courts of
Justice in London and regional courts around the UK, shadowing different members of the judiciary,
observing court and tribunal hearings, seeing case papers beforehand, and having the opportunity
to discuss proceedings with the judge before and after the hearing.
The scheme offers a terrific opportunity to learn about different perspectives on the UK’s legal
framework, and how they effect business. Each day will be spent with a different arm of the judiciary,
which includes:
Competition Appeal
Commercial Court
Chancery Division
Court of Appeal
Tribunal
Administrative and
Planning Court
Technology &
Construction Court
Patents Court
Upper Tribunal (Tax
and Chancery)
Local Courts and
Tribunals
Employment Appeal
Tribunal
Members of the House of Commons and House of Lords are welcome to take part in the scheme.
Depending on the interest of the applicant, the IPT and Royal Courts of Justice will be able to tailormake a programme that is of greatest interest to the parliamentarian, which might also include a visit
to a local court or tribunal in the Member’s constituency.
