Candidates for eligibility to full-time admission as transfer
students must satisfy one of the following categories.

Note: The University of Maryland, Baltimore County
and the University of Maryland, Baltimore are two
difference and distinct campuses. UMBC, an honors
university, is located near Catonsville, outside of the
Baltimore Beltway, while UMB is located near
Downtown Baltimore. UMB houses most of the
professional programs such as law and medicine.

determined by UMBC must meet freshman
admissions standards including high school
transcripts and SAT or ACT scores.

APPLICATION DATES
Students transferring in the fall semester should apply between September 1 and March 15. Final
date for fall admission is May 31. Students transferring in the spring semester should apply between
September 1 and November 1. Final date for spring admission is December 15. Financial aid priority
is given to applications received before February 14.
GENERAL TRANSFER INFORMATION
No more than 60 credits (65 for engineering majors) may be accepted for transfer credit from 2-year
or community colleges. Consult ARTSYS for course transferability information.

Complete a UMBC Undergraduate Admissions Application.
Apply Online
 Send an official transcript from each college or university attended. Transcripts should be
mailed directly to UMBC from the registrar of each institution.
 Include a list of courses in progress (if not included on the current school transcript).
 Request an official high school transcript and SAT I or ACT results (for applicants with fewer
than 30 college level credits).
 Pay the $50 nonrefundable application fee.
 Compose an essay for applicants wishing to be considered for academic scholarship.
 Forward a final transcript must be sent upon completion of course work in progress.

MAJOR COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Check the UMBC academic catalog to obtain a complete list of courses required by each major or
refer to the ARTSYS website.
2. Consult with your advisor, the Student Success Center or Pennsylvania Student Services Offices
for course transferability information or appropriate courses for a major.
3. Many departments require that only courses in which a C grade or better may count toward
satisfaction of major requirements. Consult the UMBC academic catalog under the major
requirements. A minimum of 2.0 average in the major requirements is needed for graduation.
Some majors may require a higher average.
