Lift Truck - Operator Training:
Did you know that the Occupational Health and
Safety Act clause 25(2) (a) requires the employer
to provide information and instruction to protect the health and safety of a
worker? Training is based on the Ministry of Labour Guidelines for the Safe
Operation and Maintenance of Powered Lift Trucks and the CSA B-335-04
Standard.
WHMIS Training:
Did you know that all employers covered by the Occupational Health and Safety
Act and Regulation 860 Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
(WHMIS) are required to ensure all employees who work with or in the proximity
to a controlled product are aware of the hazards and are trained in reading
labels, MSDS’s and trained in the safe use, storage, handling and disposal of a
controlled product. Reg. 860 sec 6(1) (2), 7(1)(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)(f), (2) (3)?
Pre-Start Health & Safety Review:
Did you know that the occupational Health and Safety Act section 7 (2) of
the Regulation for Industrial establishments require a Pre-Start Health and
Safety Review for construction, addition or installation of a new apparatus,
structure, protective element or process, or modification to an existing
apparatus, structure, protective element process?
Examples:
- New Pallet Racking Installation
- Modifications to Production Line Machinery
- Barriers or Guarding with Electrical/Mechanical Interlocks.
- Etc.
Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training:
Did you know that the new Clear Language
Regulations for the Transportation of Dangerous
Goods Part 6 of the regulation states that a person who handles, offers for
transport or transports dangerous goods must… a) “be adequately trained and
hold a training certificate in accordance with this Part; or b) perform those
activities in the presence and under the direct supervision of a person who is
adequately trained and who holds a certificate in accordance with this Part.”
Fall Protection Fundamentals Training:
Did you know that the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
Regulations states that employers will need to ensure that workers
who may use a fall protection system are adequately trained in its
use? Further, the amended regulations (OHSA Reg, 145/00, ss.13, 42
(2)), states that a worker must be given “adequate oral and written instructions by a
competent person.” Regulation 851 sections 50, 52, 70, 79, 85 and 86.
Confined Space Management Training:
Did you know that the Occupational Health and Safety Act and
Regulation 632/05 and 629/05 set out specific minimum safety
requirements for working in a confined space and section 8 Hazard
Recognition and other general training and Section 9 Plan-specific
training of the regulations describe the training that is required.
Environmental Spill Control Program:
Did you know that there are regulations in regards to areas of
a facility where liquids are stored? The primary regulations
and requirements governing Spill Response and Control are
found in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act,
Canadian Environmental Protection Act, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment
Hazardous Waste Information Network and the Ontario Fire Code section 4.
Rigging and Lifting:
Did you know that the Occupational Health and
Safety Act and regulation 851 sections 20, 24 – 25,
45, 51 – 52, 56, 60 and 79 – 85.(R.R.0. 851/90)
states that overhead lifting device(s) must “be
operated by a competent person”?
Overhead Hoist Inspections and Repairs:
Did you know that the Occupational Health and Safety
Act and regulation 851 sections 20, 24 – 25, 45, 51 – 52,
56, 60 and 79 – 85? (R.R.0. 851/90) states that overhead lifting device(s) must
“be thoroughly examined by a competent person prior to being used for the first
time, and thereafter as required, or at intervals not less than recommended by
the manufacturer and, in any case, at least once a year (a permanent record
signed by the competent person must be kept).
Man Lift Training:
Did you know that Man Lifting devices need to be operated by a
competent person, as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act
and Regulation 851 for industrial Establishments sections 50, 52,
70, 79, 85 and 86?
Supervisory Training:
Did you know that it is the responsibility of all employers,
managers and supervisors to clearly understand and operate
under the legislation directed by the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act Section
25, 26 and 27.
Accident Investigation Training:
Did you know that all accidents involving death or critical
injury must be reported to the Ministry of Labour as per the Occupational Health
and Safety Act and Regulation 852 Section 5(1)(2)(3)(4) and (6)? An employer
shall notify the Board within three days after learning of an accident to a worker
employed by him, her or it if the accident necessitates health care or results in
the worker not being able to earn full wages. Workplace Safety and Insurance
Act Section 21, 22 and 23.
Workplace Inspection Training:
Did you know that there are requirements for both general
and regular inspections of the workplace as well as to particular
equipment and/or machinery before initial use, or sometimes every use? The
Occupational Health and Safety Act, Subsection 8(6)…(9)(14), 9(23), (26) and
(27) and Regulation 851.
Respirator Training:
Did you know that the act places a general duty on the
employers to provide and maintain Personal Protective
Equipment, Section 25(1)? This section also includes
requirements for Supervisors and Workers Section 27 and 28 and in Regulation 851 for
Industrial Establishments, Respiratory Protection sub-section 70, 79, 130, 137 and 138.
Joint Health & Safety Committee Training:
Did you know that there is a legal requirement for employers
to establish a joint health and safety committee in most
workplaces with 20 or more employees? Sections 9 &10 of
the Occupational Health and Safety Act describes the requirement
and duties of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
Lock and Tag Out Training:
Did you know that Sections 32, 42, 50, 68, 75,76, 78 and 119.13
of Regulation 851 for Industrial Establishments describes the
requirement for Lock and Tag Out, as a means to physically
neutralize all energies in a piece of equipment before beginning any
maintenance or repair work?
WSIB Work well Audit Preparation:
Did you know that under the Workplace Safety and Insurance
Act, the WSIB can perform on-site health and safety evaluations
of workplaces that have consistently poor safety records? Based
on these evaluations, employers can be assessed premium increases
in addition to any other surcharges that have been levied.
Hearing Conservation Assessment/Program Development:
Did you know that the Ontario regulation 565/06 has been
amended? The existing limit of 90 decibel (DB) has been
changed to 85 decibel (DB) as per Regulation 851 for Industrial
Establishments sections 79, 130 and 139?
Musculoskeletal Disorders Training:
Did you know that the Ministry of Labour is continuing
its efforts to reduce workplace injuries by focusing on
hazards involving musculoskeletal disorders? The MOL
will target workplaces in the construction, healthcare,
industrial and mining sectors. Inspectors will concentrate on tasks that require
workers to exert force in lifting, pushing or carrying items and tasks that put
workers in awkward postures or are repetitive.
New Employee / Young Worker Training:
Did you know that your new employees need to be aware
of their rights and duties as they pertain to the
Occupational Health & Safety Act Section 28?
Fire Extinguisher Training:
Did you know that Regulation 851 section 123 requires
establishments to follow the fire code Regulation 454
sections 2.5, 3.2, 3.4, 5.17, 6.2 and 6.5 as it relates to fire
protection and fire extinguishers?
First Aid / C.P.R. Training:
Did you know that all employers covered by the Workplace
Safety and Insurance Act Regulation 1101 are required to have trained
personnel in the workplace?
