July 2014 Take a Journey around Super Brands at Tent London This September, the Truman Brewery holds a beguiling collection of design labels. Upstairs, there's all the energy and experimentation that has become the signature message for Tent London, while downstairs, in cool contrast, Super Brands is all serene and assured elegance, the place for big name brands to lure buyers into spending more than they should. AfroditiKrassa Graham & Brown Greeting visitors when they arrive, Super Brands now boasts its own dedicated café located right in the entrance, designed by rising star AfroditiKrassa, loosely based on a catwalk theme. The cafe area will also showcase new products from AfroditiKrassa, including a collection of tiles and pendant lights. This is a great chance to see the first stand-alone range from this studio, marking an important transition into the big league. Make sure you get a chance to say you saw it first. A playful and striking stand from leading UK wallpaper brand Graham & Brown should attract plenty of attention, featuring an enormous floral printed roll of paper that covers not just the stand but a Morris Minor too. The company is previewing new collections from Barbara Hulanicki and Marcel Wanders plus an archive collection from the Victoria & Albert Museum, Skins, a collection of realistic animal skin interpretations and Eccentrics, five wallpapers inspired by the architectural heritage of Britain. MG Motor Prado by Christian Werner for Ligne Roset Moving on, there's a chance to see MG Motor's installation. The link between design and automotive has been spearheaded by high profile projects in Milan and this synergy now comes to Super Brands with a brand that has been creating and building cars in the UK for the past 90 years. This heritage continues today with the MG6 and the recently launched supermini MG3. Cars bearing the iconic octagon badge have always been designed looking forward, while embracing the spirit of the brand's past. This ethos will be celebrated by the UK Design Team at Super Brands, demonstrating how influences outside automotive design are shaping future thinking. With a global reputation for supporting new and extraordinary design talent, Ligne Roset returns this year showcasing Christian Werner's revolutionary new seating system Prado, a vast seat that can used independently, complete with weighted back cushions featuring an anti-slip system that remains in place without any visible support. More design brilliance can be found with the new Adelaide Chair by Henrik Pedersen on the BoConcept stand, which is fully customisable with over 100 different finishes to select from. And for those in need a little R&R, Fatboy will be taking over the terrace, filling the space with its distinctive seating plus inflatable poodles and an intriguing collection of vintage objects. Global Color Research Materials Council With form and function covered, Super Brands sets about bringing colour into focus with the help of trend consultancy Global Color Research in the shape of an informative installation, taking viewers on a trip through ten years of colour trends, beautifully illustrated by the company's exhaustive archives. Moving into the future, there will also be a chance to discover essential key colour moods for 2015/16. Global Color Research will be collaborating with leading surfaces designer Giles Miller on two installations to celebrate the last ten years, one on site and one located at Shoreditch High Street. Look out too for the plethora of surfaces exhibitors at Super Brands London this year. Exciting new directions in a comprehensive and diverse collection of surface solutions will be revealed on stands including Armourcoat, Marshalls and Ivanka. Under the title 'Nooks, Niches and Crannies,' The Materials Council's trail starts in Super Brands London and features a series of installations designed to reveal pioneering architectural materials and manufacturing processes, showcased by a sculptural intervention and responding to the geometry of each location. Super Talks Touchwood Chair by Lars Beller Fjetland for 100% Norway Visitors looking to be inspired and possibly enraged should head to the Design Exchange's Super Talks, a potentially noisy and contentious forum for interactive discussion where the subject matter and direction will be dictated by what the audience wants to know. Talks this year include Studio TILT, responsible for Tent London's first ever co-designed press office, Global Color Research on future colour trends and Dr. Donnie Maclurcan discussing why not-for-profit enterprises can outperform more traditional models. Bergen Academy of Art and Design (KHiB) has been selected by the Royal Norwegian Embassy to curate 100% Norway at its new location alongside Super Brands. Designers include Anderssen & Voll with projects for Muuto and Magis and Lars Beller Fjetland with new collections for Discipline, returning to Tent London after the success of his Re-turned collection, seen here as a prototype in 2012, and now manufactured by Discipline and stocked by Heals. There will also be a selection of pieces created by Norway's next generation of new designers. Those who have loved 100% Norway's outside spaces in the past needn't worry; there will be a purpose-built floating terrace outside with a defined Scandinavian aesthetic. Pop-Up City Lounge Concept by Heineken Tokyo Designers Week From here you can look across to Heineken's newest nightlife experience, the Pop-Up City Lounge Concept, created together with emerging talent and inspired by tens of thousands of Instagram nightlife images. This urban design lounge premiers at Tent London before embarking on a tour around the world. Finally visitors complete their journey around this year's Super Brands on an international note, with Tokyo Designers Week exhibition, a highlight of Milan 2014. Adopting the theme 'TOKYO IMAGINE,' this exhibition highlights the best of Japanese creativity and technology in interactive design and art, motion graphics and design technology. Look out in particular for the 'Merry Go-Round' installation, skillfully blending fantasy and motion videos, designed by contemporary artist Asami Kiyokawa.
