In the context of an ever-changing world, the roles of the directors of guidance are pivotal in ensuring school
counselor competency and program effectiveness. Even a competent program staff leader can render the bestdesigned program ineffective if insufficiently prepared for the role. In order to assure success, the range of roles
that the directors play must be carefully outlined and clearly articulated so that program standards are aligned
with established visions. This session will include experiential activities and discussions that will center around
four distinct roles for directors: leadership, management, supervision, and administration. Additionally,
interactive discussions, best practices, implications, and handouts, will be included.
Presenters: Brenda Jones, Ernest Cox, Eli Zambrano, Kimberly Ridgley, and Marilyn Grubbs
