Moritz Winkelmann, pianist short bio

German pianist Moritz Winkelmann (1984) has been praised by audiences and critics alike for his enormous range of expression and pianistic facility. The Mannheimer Morgen described his playing as possessing “ resilience and compelling sound balance.

” Mr. Winkelmann performed at the Schwetzingen, Rheingau and Schleswig-Holstein Festivals and was a fellow at

Music@Menlo and the Ravinia Steans Institute. He soloed with the Philharmonic Orchestras of

Varna, Mannheim, and the Lower Saxony State Theater, the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Chamber Orchestras of Kurpfalz and Freiburg amongst others. He has been awarded first prize at the Harrison L. Winter Competition in Baltimore, the Richard Laugs Piano

Competition in Mannheim, the Baden-W ü rttemberg Tone-Artist Competition and at the

Mannheim National Theater Mozart Competition. In addition, he was awarded the Grand Prize of the Mozart Society Stuttgart. His media appearances include broadcasts on WFMT Chicago,

WBJC Baltimore, and Southern German Radio. Additionally, a documentary featuring Mr.

Winkelmann was produced and broadcast by German National Television ZDFneo.

Most recently, Mr. Winkelmann toured Denmark with the Sheridan Piano Trio of which he is a founding member.

A scholarship holder of the DAAD, the German National Academic Foundation and the

Baden-W ü rttemberg Foundation of Arts, Mr. Winkelmann has earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Music in Mannheim and subsequently pursued his graduate studies at the
