Stipend Explanation – Collaborative Learning Club (CLC) $800 for 2012-13 academic year programming ($600 fall; $200 spring) Blue Ridge Community College $600 will be received after the end of the first academic semester and will be based on the following two criteria: 1) Successful completion of a four credit hour science or technology course and either Pre-Calculus (MTH 163, 164 or 166) or Calculus I (MTH 173) with a combined minimum GPA for both courses of 2.4 2) Full participation in the CLC sessions at BRCC, including successful completion of SDV 101-01, Student Orientation to STEM. $200 will be received after full participation in the CLC sessions during the spring semester. Bridgewater College $600 can be received after the end of the first academic semester based in the following way: $300 of the stipend is based on a science project completed with a Bridgewater faculty. To complete this requirement, students will be required to: Keep a notebook and maintaining appropriate records Complete assigned readings (3-4 articles or book chapters) Meet and do research with your advisor (25-35 hrs in fall) $300 is pro-rated based on programming in fall to include: transition to college September; using WebAdvisor and registration in October; stress management in October; a “chalk talk” on your research in November $200 will be received for attendance at three spring semester meetings (one each month for Feb., March, April) Eastern Mennonite University $600 will be received after the end of the first academic semester and will be based on participation at EMU STEM Learning Community wide activities to include: 1) EMU STEM Lunches – 3 monthly transitional topics during the fall (must attend at least 2) 2) Mentor Events –individual small group study sessions 3) One-on-One mentor/mentee meeting 4) Suter Science Fall Seminars and STEM led discussion (must attend 2) 5) Assessment activities including surveys and focus groups as requested $200 will be received after full participation (2 activities) in the STEM LC sessions during the spring semester focusing on career exploration and one Suter Science Seminar. James Madison University $600 will be received after the end of the first academic semester and will be based on the following four criteria: 1) Successful completion of weekly one credit course ISAT 180 (students are pre=registered) Students will receive a pass/fail for the course and must participate in class activities. 2) Full participation in Collaborative Learning Club (CLC) mentor social networking to include corresponding with mentor and attending 2 mentor planned activities 3) Full participation in assessment activities including surveys and focus groups 4) Reside in designated dorm with other STEM/Bridging the Valley students for the first academic year $200 will be received after full participation (2 activities) in the CLC during the spring semester.
