It takes 10,000 hrs to become
an expert. This programme is
designed to support professionals
to structure their practice on
that journey to mastery in a
focused way as we see a new
type of professional enter the
marketplace in forensic emotion
awareness and deception
detection. www.10000-hrs.com
The Emotional Intelligence Academy is pleased
to announce the launch of the
MSc in Forensic Emotion Awareness*
Following two years of
development we are now taking
applications for the first stage of
this initiative which will start in
September 2012.
It is a blended programme using
online support and resources with
(compulsory) masterclasses. This is
designed to serve an international
group and we are looking for a wide
representation across organisational,
business and professional sectors.
The pilot programme will be
centred in the UK though we expect
the attendance element of the
programme to be widened in future
programmes.
The goal of the PG Certificate is to
provide a six-module foundation
that will include:
Ø Emotional Skills and Competencies
Ø Evaluating Truthfulness and
Credibility
Ø The Anatomy of the Face (FACS)
Ø Attentiveness and Mindfulness
Ø Interviewing and Conversation
Management
Ø The Autonomic Nervous System.
These ‘ten-credit’ modules will be
delivered in a blended, modular format
using resources, workbooks and other
media plus online resources and
support so as to minimize travel,
accommodation and time away from
work and home.
Those who have good passes of these
specific modules, with any of the Paul
Ekman International approved centres,
will be given credit against those
modules of the programme.
The programme not only draws from
wide professional and academic
contexts, it also leads onto research and
real world applications in the final year
across a diverse spectrum to take this
science into the many professional
sectors that need it.

Stage 1:
PG Cert in FEA

Stage 1: PG Certificate in FEA
The modular design of this stage means you can study
individual modules if you wish, or you can link them together
into the PG Certificate in Forensic Emotion Awareness from
the Emotional Intelligence Academy.
The first stage of the programme involves a mix of study
methods as follows:
Module A
– Emotional Skills and Competencies (ESaC) is a 3-day
course that requires attendance at one of the Paul Ekman
International Licensed Delivery Centres around the world. A
knowledge test and a video based skills assignment must be
submitted and passed at 65%+ for this module.
Module B
– Evaluating Truthfulness and Credibility (ETaC) is a
4-day course that also requires attendance at one of the Paul
Ekman International Licensed Delivery Centres around the
world. Some centres are offering these together as a 7 day
course. A knowledge test and a video based skills assignment
must be submitted and passed at 65%+ for this module.
See here for course dates around the world for ESaC and
ETaC. Payment for these is direct to the providing centre.
Module C
a. Face and Emotion (F&E) is a 5 day course held in
Manchester, UK and students must acquire the FACS
Manual and study the first 3 chapters before attendance
at the workshop. If you are FACS Certified you will be
exempt from the attendance part of this module though
you will also have to submit an assignment in addition to
the FACS Final Test .
b. Attentiveness and Mindfulness (A&M) does not
require attendance. It involves study of texts and use of
CDs. Delegates will keep a log of sessions with reflective
notes for the assessment of this part of the module.
Module D
a. Forensic Interviewing and Conversation Management
(FICM) is a 2-day workshop that will be delivered in
Manchester. It will require prior reading and the
workshop is highly interactive.
b. Introduction to the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) is
also a 2-day course and this will be arranged immediately
following the above module making it into a 4-day
module altogether.
Tutorial support
Those who register on the full PG Certificate will be assigned
a personal tutor for a 12-month period to support and guide
you through the assessment components. This will take place
in a scheduled Induction and a monthly review with you using
online media that you are comfortable with (e.g. Skype), in
addition to the central support platform AdobeConnect that
we launch in September 2012.
Stage 2 of the programme will follow a similar format with 2
x 6 day workshops covering the 4 modules in the UK.
Stage 3 is dissertation based and options for online and faceto-face support with your research and dissertation will be
discussed with you at Stage 2 induction.
