PREPROBONO LEAVES ITS MARK AT NYU
Largest Class Of The Spring Latest To Be Armed With LSAT Knowledge
A whopping 48 aspiring students joined PreProBono for its second New York-area Open Program of the Spring, this
time at NYU Law School’s Vanderbilt Hall. Class was led by PreProBono Senior Instructor Jonathan Wang (Columbia
Law, J.D. ’10) and PreProBono Fellow James Ganley (NYU Law, J.D. Candidate ’15). After sixteen hours of in-class
instruction, split over two days, the students had been given all of the tools necessary to succeed on the LSAT.
Student response was overwhelmingly positive. “Coming here showed me that indeed, learning with excellent
teachers by far surpasses the torturous hours spent listening to Kaplan instructors and studying by myself,” said
Baruch College grad Margaret Mrzyk. NYU junior Alina Murphy agreed: “As grueling as it was to get up early and
give my weekend, I am so happy I did it and I would do it over again and again. Thanks so much for all the
knowledge and inspiration!”
PreProBono proudly welcomed back Joy Wang (Harvard Law, J.D. ’10) as its public interest speaker for the
weekend. Ms. Wang, a veteran speaker for PreProBono weekend programs, inspired students yet again with the
tale of the path she took to the Criminal Bureau of Manhattan’s Legal Aid Society, speaking passionately about the
importance of her work and offering words of wisdom for the students from her own experiences. “I really liked
Joy’s speech,” commented Fordham University junior Maggie Andresini. “It was great to get perspective on her law
school & work experience.”
Once again, though the majority of students were eligible to receive a refund on their deposits, several of them
chose to donate to PreProBono instead, paying their deposit forward to help other students like themselves.
Several students were particularly struck by PreProBono’s mission. “It really is amazing to me that guys with big
name law degrees are out helping me and my peers for free because they want to,” said NYU junior Dylan Weeks.
“I think this is something that more people should do and more students should experience.”
Despite the large class and long hours, students were still cheerful and lively at the end of the program. “I learned
so much,” said Barnard College sophomore Christina Phan. “It did not feel like 16 hours at all. Thanks for making
studying so effortless.”
Congratulations to our latest class of Weekend Program alumni!
Special thanks to NYU Law School’s APALSA for their assistance in securing a venue for this event. Thanks also to
NYU Pre-Law Advisor Kelli Johnson for her assistance with event logistics.
