NEXT PLAY: Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis by Charlotte Jones 14 - 17 Oct directed by Liz Acland
If the enormous pleasure which the cast is taking in both the hilarious script, and the
bizarre situations which make up this comedy, are anything to go by, audiences are in
for a real treat when we go "live" on the 14th of October. Even a glance at the props list
can give the same, only slightly disconcerting thrill - a whip, a tent, handcuffs, a snow
globe....as for the costumes, well, you must wait and see. And all this melded by the
fabulous music of the King of Rock and Roll. Of course you must NOT miss it!
Warning - You will never eat Bombay Mix again.

OCTOBER 2015
Auditions - Cabaret
Show dates: 14 - 16 and 21 - 23 April 2016
If you are a show-off then this is the show for you! There
will be six performances of Cabaret but they will be split
over two weeks to try to maximise customer preference.
The first week of production In April 2016 will entail a
technical rehearsal on the Monday, first dress rehearsal
on Tuesday and final dress on the Wednesday with performances on Thursday Friday and Saturday. The second week there will be a refresher
rehearsal on the Tuesday and if necessary another dress rehearsal on the Wednesday
with performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Rehearsals will start as soon after the new year as people can manage because there will be a LOT of work!
I know that this is a big ‘ask’ as far as commitment goes, but I’m sure that the experience will be worthwhile for both the audiences and for you as performers. Initial read/
through/auditions will take place on Tuesday 3rd November at the Playhouse with music/singing auditions on the following Tuesday (10th Nov) at the same venue.
I found the following character descriptions on the ‘net and thought they might give
you a guide. Don’t worry about the vocal range!
Character Descriptions:
Emcee - Master of Ceremonies – Vocal Range – middle C to High C sharp – tenor – The host
at the Kit Kat Klub – presented as a gender questionable character comfortable with being
close to both men and women – comedic – loveable – requiring movement and dance –
speaks with a German Accent – Age range of appearance: non-specific
Clifford Bradshaw – Vocal Range – Low A to High E – Tenor – Description – American Novelist
travelling to Berlin – presented as a closeted Gay Man exploring his sexuality –Appearance
Age range Late 20’s to Mid 30’s in age. Speaks with an American accent.
Fraulein Schneider – Vocal Range – Low D to A flat above middle C – Alto - A landlady who
rents rooms in her large flat. Appearance Age Range 50+. Requiring an ability to deliver lines
with a German accent. Comfortable with stage movement and light dance – waltz.
Herr Schultz – Vocal Range – Low G to High F – Tenor – One of Fraulein Schneider’s
roomers and the proprietor of a Fruit Shop. Appearance Age Range 50+. Requiring an ability
to deliver lines with a German accent. Comfortable with stage movement and light dance.
Fraulein Kost – Vocal Range – Low A flat to High F – Alto/Mezzo – Another of Frl. Schneider’sroomers. She earns money by offering favours to sailors – presentation of the character
should exhibit a strong sexual comfort and commanding nature. Comfortable with stage
movement. German accent required. Appearance Age Range – 30’s to 40’s
Sally Bowles –Vocal Range – Low A to High C – Soprano – able to belt the song– A British
Cabaret singer at the Kit Kat Klub. A quirky character that comes across as flighty – yet at
times struggles with knowing the darkness of the reality of her life as a cabaret performer. Appearance Age Range – 20’s to 30’s. Speaks with a British Accent.

Sailors who frequent Fraulein Kost’s services. Should be comfortable with portraying
free in gender depictions.
5 to 7 Kit Kat Klub Girls – Ensemble Singers
and Dancers -- The individuals will also be
part of various scenes as performers and as
club patrons. The ladies can be of various
shapes and sizes – the key is to be comfortable with your femininity and scanty costumes that show off sex appeal. Two of the
girls will be dancing with the Emcee In ‘Two
Ladies’ and one will be dressed as a gorilla
for the number ‘If You Could See Her’.
Sunday, 18 October at 2-.00 pm.
There will be a workshop at the Playhouse on Sunday 18 October from
2.00 pm. We will work on a script by
an old friend of the Players, Martin
Chambers. We have performed his
work before and this piece is called
Girl Fishing.
It is about three quarters of an hour
long. The idea is we workshop the play
during the afternoon, break for tea and
then return to put it on at 7.30 script in
hand. People are also welcome to attend in the evening to watch.
Work Day at the PLAYHOUSE
Once again the Playhouse needs a
good clean up. The previous one
had to be cancelled as so few people were available. Members are

Considered being a Director?
There is an opportunity for a directing
slot in late August or the beginning of
September next year. Traditionally this
is undertaken by a small cast and crew
and because it often has smaller audiences is an opportunity to try something different, such as "Two" this year
which was performed in the bar. If
you, or someone you know, has an
idea for a play and would like to be
considered, then please contact Ian
Baker on ian.david.baker@hotmail.co.uk or 07500 454981 within the next
few days.
