¡Bienvenidos a la clase de espanñol
Profesora: Sra. Vogelsong
COURSE CONTENT
In this class, you will learn vocabulary and grammar necessary to communicate in
Spanish and gain an awareness of Spanish-speaking cultures. This class addresses all
five language competencies (speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture). Daily
activities include vocabulary, grammar, conversation and cultural studies. In order to
get the most out of your Spanish studies, you must do your part by participating in
class activities and putting in time outside of class to master the material.
METHODOLOGY
This course will require students to take an active role in their own learning.
Students will work together in groups and pairs as well as individually to master the
material. I will guide and encourage students in their journey through the course
content.
EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS CLASS
1. “In school, as in life, showing up is half the battle.” Be in class, on time, and in
your assigned seat EVERY DAY.
2. “The door of opportunity is wide open if you are prepared.” Bring all of your
materials to class each day.
3. “Treat others the way you would like to be treated.” Be kind, tolerant and
respectful toward others and their property. Inappropriate language and behavior will
not be tolerated.
4. “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” You will be amazed what
a positive attitude and a little cooperation can do.
5. “Effort creates ability.” You will get out of this class what you put into it.
ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST!!!!!
DAILY ROUTINE
1. You will go to your assigned seat, get out your class materials and begin working
on the assignment that is on the board or screen (Do Now / Hazlo Ahora)
2. We will review previously learned material and introduce new material. Group
activities, collaborative learning, paired and guided practice, as well as audio and
visual elements will be regular components of our class.
3. Summarizing activity and homework. Students will be dismissed by the teacher,
not the clock.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
Bathroom use / Hall passes
No student may leave the classroom during whole-group instruction or
presentation of new material unless it is a dire emergency and the teacher has
given permission. When you are working individually, in pairs/groups or on a
project, you may sign out on the clipboard when you leave and when you return
from the bathroom. Only one student may be out of the classroom at a time.
If you come into class after the bell rings, you must have an official pass signed by a
teacher or administrator.
Electronic Devices, Gum, Food
Cell phones, MP3 players, gum and food should not be seen or heard during class.
This rule is in place so that everyone may be focused on learning while in class with
minimal distractions.

GRADES
Your total grade for this course will be calculated based on:
Each marking period
(45% x 2)
Final exam
90%
10%
100%
Each marking period’s grade will be calculated based on the following four
categories:
Participation
Participation is assessed daily and includes:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Attendance
Attentiveness
Having the materials necessary to participate in class activities
Completing assigned work
Participation in paired and group activities
Demonstrating a cooperative and respectful attitude
Using your time wisely
Classwork
Grades in this category come from class notes, activities, audio/video workbooks,
Spanish-only conversations with assigned groups and reading comprehension
assignments. Students should complete all class activities and assignments that are not
in the workbook or on a worksheet on a piece of loose leaf paper filed in their
notebooks. All notes, handouts and homework assignments must be in order, dated,
and legible in order to receive credit for them.
Homework
The purpose of homework is to reinforce and practice skills learned in class. Class
assignments not finished during class time automatically become homework for
the next day. Homework may be checked and/or collected at any time. Make sure you
always have it done before the start of class.
Assessments
Tests are given at the end of a chapter or unit. Quizzes (both announced and
unannounced) will be given periodically. Projects also fall into this category.
MAKE-UP WORK
If a student misses class FOR ANY REASON it is the student’s responsibility to
make up the work. Work (including assignments and tests/quizzes) must be made up
within three days of the student's return to school. If the work has not been made up
within three days, the student will receive a zero for the missed work. Work missed
due to an unexcused absence is a zero.
CHEATING
Any and all students involved in cheating (passing off the work of others as your
own or allowing another student to use your work) will receive discipline referrals
and a zero for that assignment/test/quiz. There will be no warnings. Working
collaboratively when you have been instructed to work individually also
constitutes cheating.
EXTRA CREDIT
Extra credit opportunities will be limited, so I encourage you to take advantage of
them when they are offered. Even a few extra points can make a difference in your
overall marking period grade. Do not expect to be given bonus points or extra credit
work to salvage a poor grade at the end of the marking period. Teacher-initiated
extra credit opportunities are the only kind of extra credit accepted. If you are doing
what you need to do on a regular basis, your grade will already be good!
