General Function: The Association Child Care Director is responsible for the daily operation
and supervision of the entire child care department; with attention to the emotional, intellectual,
nutritional, social and physical well-being of each program participant and staff and in
accordance with Arizona State Department of Health Services. The Director must administer the
affairs of the program as set forth by the policies and objectives established by the YMCA Board
of Directors, the Executive Director and the Associate Director.
Know How: The Child Care Director must meet minimum director qualifications and
certifications as required by the Arizona Department of Health Services. The Director must have
a working knowledge of preschool and school age child care, State Licensing curriculum and
program development and understand the internal working, policies and structure of the YMCA.
Minimum of 2 years leadership experience in licensed child care
Skilled in organization with attention to detail
Must possess strong communication skills, written and verbal
Proven leadership skills
Have a strong background in child care and program management
College Degree preferred but not required (see AZ State guidelines)
Must provide current CPR/First Aid Certification and Federal Fingerprint Clearance
Principle Activities:
Manage the day to day operation of the facility, curriculum, staff and participants
Oversee the daily adherence of the Arizona State Health Services Guidelines
Oversee the annual fire and gas inspections
Complete annual documentation of immunization records required by the State
Sign off and approve staff timesheets bi-weekly
Assist staff when needed
Communicate daily with staff, participants, parents, and weekly with Associate Director
Maintain accurate files on all programs participants, staff, facility and curriculum according
to AZ State Health Department guidelines
Maintain current billing and payment history on all program participants
Collect and post annual registration fees, weekly childcare fees and Y staff payments
Problem solve and correct any participant payment issues
Prepare and process monthly DES billing in an accurate and timely manner
Monitor all child care scholarships
Create monthly newsletter for participants
Oversee monthly activity calendars and snack schedule as required by the State
Conduct monthly staff trainings
Evaluate staff performance annually
Develop department budget
Prepare for and attend weekly management meetings
Supervise Child care Program Assistant, Administrative Assistant and staff
Develop policies and procedures related to child care

Work as a member of the Child Care team to accomplish programs that demonstrate the
best interests of children and families in our program
Represent the YMCA in a professional manner and follow YMCA policies and procedures
Follow general standards of performance set forth for all YMCA employees
Demonstrate character values that embrace the core values of caring, honesty, respect,
and responsibility
Effect on End Results:
This position has great affect on the overall program of the YMCA Child Care Department.
The satisfaction of students and parents, the delivery of quality, safe programs,
maintaining steady enrollment, and keeping with the YMCA mission and values will
determine the end results. The Director will ensure financial success of the child care
department.
