GOOD JOBS THAT …
Requireminimaltraining
T
he slow pace of the economic recovery could make searching for a job seem like an endurance
sport of sorts — especially for recent graduates and others who lack a deep resume. » But economists predict hiring will significantly improve this year, with many of those jobs being entrylevel positions that require less than one year of training. » Career experts reiterate that the
key for those looking to enter the job market is gaining valuable work experience even in a career that
might not be a job candidate’s first choice. » The best strategy is to focus on getting your foot in the door
rather than finding a dream job, said Raquel City-Carroll, assistant director of the Southwest Skill Center at
Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale. » “Once they get in, they can decide what direction to
go in,” she says. » That’s because even positions that turn out to be less-than-ideal fits help rookie employees build valuable workplace skills.
