Text: Calculus, 9th edition, Salas/Hille/Etgen. We will cover material from Chapters 7, 8,
10 and 11.
Midterms: Friday, April 21 (on Chapters 7, 8 and some of Chapter 10) and Friday, May
19 (on the rest of Chapter 10 and some of Chapter 11).
Final Examination: Friday, June 9, 10:30am-12:30pm in E203.
Most problems on midterms and the final exam will be similar to homework. There will
also be some theory questions, such as stating definitions or major theorems. Before each
midterm and the final exam, you will receive a study guide which will also be posted on the
class webpage. The final exam is cumulative.
It is the policy of the Department of Mathematics that the following rules apply to final exams
in all undergraduate mathematics courses:
(1) The final exam must occur at the time and place designated on the College Final
Exam Schedule. In particular, no final examinations may be given during the tenth
week of the quarter, except in the case of graduating seniors.
(2) Any student who wishes to depart from the scheduled final exam time for the course
must receive permission from Paul Sally (office is Ry 350, phone is 2-7388, email is
sally@math.uchicago.edu). Instructors are not permitted to excuse students from the
scheduled time of the final exam except in the case of an Incomplete.
Homework: Problems will be assigned in each lecture and posted on the class web page.
Solutions are due Wednesdays in class, starting Wednesday, April 5 . Your answers should be
stapled together, neat and legible; scratch work will not be accepted. No late homework will
be accepted. You may discuss homework problems with other students but your solutions
must be written up independently.
Problem Session: TBA.
Grading policy: Homework 20%, Midterms 20% each, Final Examination 40%.
Other: Please check your uchicago email account regularly. There will be no lecture on
Monday May 29 (Memorial Day).
