Intel Micron Flash Technology Wafer Fab
Manufacturing Facility, Singapore
Introduction
The Intel Micron plant will be Singapore’s
largest flash manufacturing facility when it is
completed. This multi-million dollar NAND
flash memory chip manufacturing site is a
joint venture between Santa Clara-based
Intel Corp., the world’s largest manufacturer
of computer chips, and Boise, Idaho-based
Micron Technology Inc. Construction of the
plant started in early 2007 and was completed
in 2008.
The Challenges
As a flash manufacturing facility, stringent
requirements were built into many aspects
of the construction. Similarly rigorous
standards were applied to its waterproofing
specifications, which called for an upward,
fully bonded waterproofing system. There
was also no protective screed for the concrete
base slab, and the flooring system used was
a moisture-sensitive epoxy requiring extra
care in waterproofing. On top of all these
needs, the flash manufacturing site had a very
aggressive construction schedule.
The Solution
The specification team chose the Grace
Preprufe® pre-applied waterproofing
membrane system based on its ability to meet
project needs and challenges, as well as its
proven track record in waterproofing similar
high-tech manufacturing facilities.
Preprufe is an aggressive pressure sensitive
adhesive that can be pre-applied. It forms
a unique integral seal to concrete poured
against it. This prevents water migration and
the membrane remains unaffected by ground
settlement beneath slabs. The membrane is
also simple and quick to install, requiring
no priming or fillets, and can be trafficked
immediately after application. Application of
Preprufe 300R over an area of about 41,000m2, and
another 1,500m2 of Bituthene® 3000 on the retaining
wall, was completed in three months, way ahead of
schedule.
