2015
Dear E-Tech Cadets,
War Eagle and Congratulations! You have been selected to attend The Engineering Technologies
Academy at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama during 25 July to 1 August 2015.
If you are an aspiring engineer or Aviation and Aerospace Science enthusiast, E-Tech has a great deal to offer
you. Please read this letter carefully for important details about this year’s activity.
Travel
Travel Days: Plan to arrive on Saturday 25 July and depart on Saturday 1 August in the afternoon of each day.
Independent car riders may depart on Friday evening, after graduation, if they prefer, only after their rooms
have been inspected.
Transportation: We anticipate that many of you will be flying to this activity. Please fly into KMGM
Montgomery AL, arriving before 1600 hrs EDT, and we will arrange for you to be picked up via CAP van and
transported “in style” to Auburn. Likewise, we will drive you back for your departure flight.
Please arrange an afternoon arrival and departure, noting that Auburn is in the central time zone, one hour
behind the east coast. The Saturday afternoon departure is particularly important because if you schedule a
morning flight we will not be able to get you to the airport in time to clear security and baggage check.
Those who drive should come directly to The Poly-Fiber Engineering Building at 311 West Magnolia Ave,
Auburn AL 36849-5327 on Saturday afternoon (1500-1700 hrs CDT) 25 July 2015, and may depart on Friday
evening after graduation or on Saturday morning along with CAP Van riders. For those that drive themselves,
you may park in the Domino Pizza parking lot right across the street for temporary parking that afternoon.
Parking on campus is by permit only and if you drive yourself, a permit will be obtained for you, please let me
know ahead of time so that I may have one for you at check in.
Travel Arrangements: Please email your travel itinerary as soon as possible, but no later than 05 July
2015 to Maj. Bob Gilbert (rbg181301@gmail.com)

Common Sense and Usual Rules Apply
Do not bring weapons, illegal drugs, alcoholic beverages, or items that may create a safety hazard or risk,
such as skateboards and roller-blades. Civilian clothing should present a professional image
representative of engineering students and CAP cadets: no torn, low-cut, or baggy clothing, reversed
ball caps, large exposed tattoos, controversial slogans, etc.
Uniforms of the Day
Most days E-Tech cadets and staff will wear the distinctive E-Tech polo shirts that are provided at check-in,
sneakers, and tan pants or tan shorts. The AF-style blue uniform (short sleeve shirt without tie or tie-tab)
will be worn on Wednesday for our CAP National Headquarters tour. There is no need to bring BDUs or
your service coat. You will be given two polo shirts in school colors at check-in. We will alternate the
colors each day and laundry will be done as needed. There is no need to have money for the machines as
it will be provided for you.
Expected Weather
Alabama, which is home sweet home to CAP National Headquarters, Maxwell AFB and Auburn
University is HOT and HUMID in the month of July, but the air conditioning in the small dorm rooms
sometimes works too well, hence the suggestion to bring a light blanket.
The E-Tech Training Environment
E-Tech cadets are high-achievers who have previously completed a CAP encampment. The training environment is
similar to that of Cadet Officer School – collegial, fitting the best traditions of a major academic university and the U.S.
Air Force Auxiliary. CAP adult senior members will supervise cadets, but each cadet will be responsible for managing
their time, arriving promptly for scheduled E-Tech activities, and following other common-sense safety rules that will be
explained upon check-in. CAP cadets will have certain freedoms of choice in the evening. Examples include working
out, trips to local stores, or learning more about
Aerospace Engineering in casual and fun evening academic sessions. There will be an assigned project to be divided into
individual groups for the duration of the week. The final presentations will be given to the entire group on Friday
evening. That packet will be given to the flight commanders who will be your advisors for this activity. This is a required
project for completion of the activity.
Generally, there are no formations, parades, or drill and ceremonies. There will be flight commanders but this is for
accountability during activities only.
Cadets are expected to observe military customs and courtesies in addressing CAP and USAF officers. Our cadets are
very much welcome at Auburn because we treat Auburn professors and staff with our crisp respect. Please continue
this tradition and exhibit kindness and respect to all we encounter throughout the activity.
Cadets who do not comply with E-Tech rules may be sent home early at their own expense. Additional guidelines for
cadets attending E-Tech will be sent as needed.
Tentative Schedule
A daily schedule will be given to each staff member each morning. Activities will focus on Aerospace Engineering by way
of airfoil design, construction, simulation, smoke tunnel testing and analysis. Additional topics will include Materials
Engineering, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer & Fibers Engineering and a trip to the
Auburn-Opelika Airport (KAUO) for a tour and talk on Auburn's Aviation
Cadets also visit Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, to include a tour of the Heritage
Air Park, and the GKN Aerospace Plant in Tallassee, AL. This is a secure facility and no cameras of any type will be
allowed in the building.
The graduation ceremony will be held at ~1600 hrs on Friday, 31 July in the same building as you checked in. The
graduation is held in the auditorium at the Polymer and Fiber Engineering Building. We will have our banquet prior to
graduation, for those families that want to come, they are most welcome, I just need the number to make sure there
will be enough food for everyone.
