BUSINESS OPERATIONS
PRESIDENT
ANDY DOLICH
President, Business Operations
Andy Dolich is a proven sports industry executive with a successful track record of achieving
turnarounds on behalf of franchises facing both performance and marketing challenges. He has
been responsible for the overall day-to-day functioning of the business and marketing side of the
Grizzlies since being appointed as president of business operations by team owner, Michael
Heisley, in May of 2000.
In June 2001, the Grizzlies relocated from Vancouver to Memphis. Dolich led a management
team that completed the Herculean task of establishing roots in their new home in less than 120
days.
During his thirty-three year career, he has held a variety of executive positions within professional sports including the NBA, NHL, Major League Baseball, Pro Soccer and Lacrosse. Dolich was
formerly President/COO of the Golden State Warriors and began his career with the Philadelphia
76ers in 1971.
Dolich is credited with having been a driving force behind the marketing resurgence of the Oakland A’s with whom he worked
from 1980 – 1994. During this time, the Oakland Coliseum was Northern California’s most popular venue for family entertainment.
Dolich helped change the face of sports team advertising through the award winning “BillyBall” campaign. The A’s hosted the
1987 MLB All-Star game, six post-season appearances, including three consecutive World Series in 1989, 1990, and 1991,
sweeping the San Francisco in the “Battle of the Bay” World Series in 1989 which ultimately became known as the “Earthquake
Series”. Dolich’s marketing team increased season tickets from 400 to 16,000 and attendance from 800,000 to 2.9 million
during his tenure.
From 1995 – 1998, Dolich headed a sports business consulting group which had a client base that included Nike, Stanford
University, University of California-Berkeley, America’s Cup syndicate America One, Oakland A’s, Ladbroke Racing, and the
United States Soccer Federation.
The Grizzlies organization is committed to building strong bonds in the Mid-South community. Significant relationships have
been established with Memphis Athletic Ministries, Memphis Boys and Girls Club, Read to Achieve with Memphis Public
Libraries, Bridges, Stax, Soulsville USA, and the Tennessee State High School Athletic Association. In the spring of 2003, the
Memphis Grizzlies donated $5 million to build the Memphis Grizzlies House, a 100 room, short-stay facility for patients of St.
Jude Children’s Research Hospital and their families. The Memphis Grizzlies House located on the St. Jude campus opened in
the Fall of 2003.
With the opening of FedExForum, an exciting chapter in Grizzlies history is being written. This state of the art multi-purpose
entertainment center will continue to add to the renaissance of downtown Memphis. The opening of FedExForum will be a
centerpiece of the Grizzlies regional marketing strategy. The Grizzlies Business Operations Group is also responsible for the
administration and operation of FedExForum.
Dolich received his undergraduate degree in Government from American University in Washington DC and his Masters in Sport
Management from Ohio University.
The New York native serves on a number of sports and community-related boards and organizations.
