Forensic Case Report
Presentation Dates: _____________________
You will present a 5-7 minute power point presentation on your case.
Part I Background Information ( 4-5 information slides)
This section will begin with an introduction and should provide all of the relevant background
information including the date, time, and people involved. Give a description of the time frame
in which the crime occurred. Knowing the time in history gives an understanding of what
scientific tools were used and how cases were solved.
Part II The Case (4-5 information slides)
In this section, you should explain the case itself, including all of the details (especially the
MMO) concerning the "incident" at the time it occurred. Include the final disposition (court
trial results) of the case. Finally, include a slide(s) that gives a detailed description of any
forensics used to solve the crime.
Part III Current Information (2-3 information slides)
Use this section to discuss any new or ongoing investigations that might impact or change the
current understanding of the case. It is in this section that you can express any personal ideas or
thoughts regarding the case, changes in science that might affect/have affected the outcome, or
ongoing appeals.
Part IV Conclusion (1 slide)
A summary slide will bring your presentation to a conclusion and highlight important facts for
the audience to remember.
Part V Bibiography/Works Cited (typed up; turned in separately) Cited in MLA Format
Bibliography (one separate page)
Go to:
www.mhslibrary.blogs.rsu1.org,
click on: “big 6”,
click on 5th bullet down “pink sheet” link, save the pdf of MLA format citations on
your desk top.
You will be researching information using primary resources and citing them in MLA format. Use the
“Pink” Packet available at the Library.
Examples of MLA citations (from the pink packet) include the following:
Websites:
Author. Title of item. [Online] Available http://address/filename, date of document or
download.
Images:
Description or title of image. [Online Image] Available http://address/filename, date of
document or download.
The project requires between 2- 4 sources. Don't forget books- even if it's your textbook. Our library
has crime books also.
Guide to finding a research source. First, determine what you want to find out, usually in the form of
a question. Choose a source -- book, internet, video, video download, newspaper, magazine, etc. Scan
the materials and decide if it is worth using. Write a MLA bibliography citation. THEN take detailed
notes.

Newspaper, Magazines, Books, Textbook:
Morse Library has started a great collection of Crime resources. Ask Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Fagan
for help.
Your textbook is a great resource for describing the forensic techniques used in a case, so use it!
TV Programs, Videos & Video Downloads
Scan TV channels: Discovery ID, truTV, A&E. All are good sources. If you subscribe to
ITunes, search for Discovery Channel, as there are programs that are free downloads. With
high profile cases, there are often movies made based on the case, but DO NOT RELY ON
MOVIES AS A PRIMARY RESOURCE!
