*Only your three highest midterm exam scores will count toward your total score.
A missed midterm exam will result in a score of zero and will be counted as your
lowest exam score. No early or make-up exams will be given for any reason.
*Homework Assignments
Homework for each chapter must be completed online using the Mastering
Chemistry program (http://www.masteringchemistry.com). An Access Code for
this site is included with your textbook (if purchased new at the UNR Bookstore),
or can be purchased separately online. A link to the Mastering Chemistry site
and the due dates for assignments will be posted on the course website.
Laboratory Meetings: All students registered in Chem 121 for 4 credits have a
required lab meeting each week. Check the Spring class schedule for the day,
time and room where your lab section meets.
Note: Labs will meet for the first time beginning Monday, January 28, 2008.
You must check the lab website
http://www.chem.unr.edu/courses
at least 24 hours prior to your lab each week; required prelab assignments for
experiments will be posted approximately one week in advance. Attendance at
all labs is mandatory. A missed lab results in a score of zero. There are no
make-up labs. If you miss more than 2 labs for any reason you will
automatically fail the course. If you do not complete a required prelab, you will
not be allowed to work in lab!
Any student caught cheating in any way will be referred to the UNR Mediation,
Advocacy and Judicial Services Office. Penalties may include, but are not limited
to, course failure, suspension or expulsion. If you have a disability and require
assistance, please contact the Disability Resource Center (TB 101) to arrange for
appropriate accommodations.
*You must bring your Picture ID, YOUR CALCULATOR and extra batteries
to all exams; No loaner calculators will be available.
*All cell phones/PDAs, etc. must be turned OFF during class and during all exams.
You may NOT use the calculator function of your cell phone during exams,
nor may calculators be shared.
Note: All cell phones must be OFF during class

Schedule of Experiments for Chemistry 121 Laboratory Spring 2008
Experiments to accompany the text Chemistry: The Central Science are in the Catalyst
Chemistry 121 Laboratory Manual which has been custom published for UNR and is
available only at the UNR Bookstore.
The following is a list of experiments only; you must print the exact schedule for your
laboratory day from the lab website. Each week at least 24 hours prior to lab, go to the
lab website to complete the required Pre-Laboratory Assignments. If you do not
complete and bring the pre-lab assignment with you to lab, you will NOT be allowed to
perform the experiment and will receive a score of zero for that week's lab.

*First lab meeting is Monday, January 28, 2008. If you do not attend the first lab
meeting you may be dropped and another student added in your place.
**Online safety questions are due at the beginning of 2nd lab period; see next page for
instructions
To complete the On-line Safety Questions
• Go to www.chem.unr.edu/safety/student.html
• Read the Document "Safety Information for Students in Undergraduate
Chemistry Laboratory Courses"
• After reading this entire document, click on "Student Safety Questions"
• Print the two pages of questions.
• Answer all questions fully.
• Sign, date and print your name legibly at the bottom of the second page.
• Staple and Return both pages to your laboratory teaching assistant at the beginning of
the second lab period.
NOTE: Any student who does not complete and turn in this safety assignment at the
beginning of the second lab meeting will not be allowed to work in lab.
It is important that you prepare for each laboratory meeting by reading the experiment
carefully, completing the Pre-Laboratory assignments and reviewing the relevant
sections in your textbook.
In the interest of the safety of all students, if you do not complete the Pre-Laboratory
assignments you will not be allowed to work in lab.
Math 120 or higher Core Math course is required as a prerequisite, or Math 127 or higher
Core Math course is required as a co-requisite for Chem 121;
If you do not meet either of these requirements, you should not be in this course.
Math help is available in the Mathematics Center, AB610, M-F 8 am - 5 pm.
Chemistry 121 is a Natural Science Core course
