Microbiology Test is on Tuesday, May 5th. You are permitted a one page (1 sided, 8.5”x11”) hand
written cheat sheet that can contain any information that you think will be beneficial to you.
Taxonomy:




Know the 7 levels of classification (2.1)
Know the 6 kingdoms (2.1)
Be able to use a dichotomous tree to identify a species

Viruses:





Know that viruses are not considered alive
Viruses are composed of a protein coat surrounding DNA or RNA
Know the 4 steps of viral replication (2.3)
Be able to give 2 examples of viruses that affect humans









Know the key characteristics of a bacteria (5 of the them) (2.4)

Know the 3 standard shapes (cocci, bacilli, spirilla) and the 4 grouping names (mono-, diplo-,
strepto-, staphylo-)

What are 3 helpful things about bacteria (have examples to use)?
Explain how bacteria replicate and the process of conjugation.

Fungi:








How are fungi like plants and how are they different (pg. 136)
Be able to outline and describe the lifecycle of a fungus (like a button mushroom)
What are the benefits of fungi? (be able to give specific examples)

Be able to give some examples of the diversity of fungi
What is the difference between a symbiotic relationship and a parasitic one? Be able to give a
