C ELL P HONES — All cell phones and beepers should be placed on silent mode prior to Mass.

Christian stewards understand that all they receive, including the bountiful food and drink that is often taken for granted, ultimately comes from the Lord. By denying ourselves food for a time, we are reminded in physical and emotional ways of the Lord’s generosity. As we fast, thoughtlessness is replaced by gratitude and mindfulness of the needs of others. The ancient practice of fasting also conditions us for greater spiritual practices. Incorporate some aspect of fasting from food or drink into your Lenten practice, something in addition to the sacrifices we make on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent.

A & E COMMITTEE MEETING

Please join me Sunday, March 30 around 9:15a (following the 8a Mass) in the church to discuss and make plans to decorate St. John and John

L. Hill Chapel for Easter. With the new changes to the church we will be unable to use some of the things we have in the past and need to re-group and think of new ways to mount items and decorate. This is one of the church's most beautiful celebrations and I welcome your decorating ideas and input. I hope you can join me Sunday, March

30. THANKS in advance for your help! If you have any questions please contact Susan at scraft089@yahoo.com or 863-2046.

ARTS & ENVIRONMENT SEEKING LEADERSHIP ROLE

The Arts & Environment Committee is responsible for creating the appropriate worship environment for our parish liturgical celebrations. The goal is to make our church inviting, beautiful and liturgically meaningful.

They help plan and design the decorations for every season and other special events. The committee is seeking someone to take the leadership role of this group. Committee members and volunteers are independent, and capable of decorating the church, but we need someone to take the leadership and organization for the committee. The leader will attend monthly Worship Committee meetings and work with other liturgical ministers. Pray to discern if God wants you to assist in the ministry. If you would like to assist, contact the office or email scraft089@yahoo.com.

Q. I've noticed that restaurants and grocery stores advertise specials on expensive types of fish and seafood on

Fridays during Lent. Some of my

Catholic friends take advantage of these deals, but somehow I don't feel right treating myself to the lobster special on Fridays during Lent.

A. While fish, lobster and other shellfish are not considered meat and can be consumed on days of abstinence, indulging in the lavish buffet at your favorite seafood place sort of misses the point. Abstaining from meat and other indulgences during Lent is a penitential practice. On the

Fridays of Lent, we remember the sacrifice of Christ on Good Friday and unite ourselves with that sacrifice through abstinence and prayer.
