A strong leader understands that while everyone has a particular style that most
suites the, but they are aware that they will use aspects of all the above types of
leadership styles and some instances may require them to use one style more than
the others.
Ask the class for examples:
Potential examples:
-Achievement-oriented Leadership works very well when dealing with highly trained
professionals who are experienced or experts in their fields.
-Supportive Leadership is important if a team member has had a particularly bad
experience at a past job position and may need more personal interaction
-In emergency situations or when someone is brand new the Directive style of
leadership may be more strongly utilized

Supplemental Quote:
“’So I should be in Slytherin,’ Harry said, looking desperately into Dumbledore’s face.
‘The Sorting Hat could see Slytherin’s power in me, and it ―’ ― ‘Put you in
Gryffindor,’ said Dumbledore calmly. ‘Listen to me, Harry. You happen to have many
qualities Salazar Slytherin prized in his hand-picked students. His own very rare gift,
Parseltongue ... resourcefulness ... determination .. a certain disregard for rules,’ he
added, his moustache quivering again. ‘Yet the Sorting Hat placed you in Gryffindor.
You know why that was. Think.’ ― ‘It only put me in Gryffindor,’ said Harry in a
defeated voice, ‘because I asked not to go in Slytherin ...’ ― ‘Exactly,’ said
Dumbledore, beaming once more. ‘Which makes you very different from Tom Riddle.
It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more
than our abilities.’ ―

Scenario:
Billy Bob and Sally Sue have worked together on a project for about 3 months. Billy
Bob is the PM and Sally Sue is a mid-level resource on the team. Billy Bob has noticed
that Sally Sue struggles with consistently applying material she has been amply
trained on to her project work. It seems that each time a new task is assigned, Billy
Bob must re-train Sally Sue on basic processes that the rest of the project team has
been able to master. Billy Bob believes additional training on the same topics is going
to yield the same results—Sally Sue still won’t be able to “hold her own” and
effectively contribute to the project. In the spirit of Servant Leadership, what do you
recommend Billy Bob due to help remedy the situation?

Vision Statement Development Resources: (Your vision should embody your hopes
dreams and goals and be a written statement that refines and declares what you are
hoping to attain)
14
Sharing and getting support and buy in from the Chapter is critical to achieving
successful attainment of the vision statement. One of the key roles of leader is to
help lead the group to consensus and support of the mission.
15
• It is critical to develop a Mission. As AKPsi Leaders some of this has been developed
for you, but you should work with your chapter to develop a specific chapter mission
• Develop the Plan based off of the AKPsi & Chapter Visions. The ACR is a basic tool to
help organize these thoughts
