SESAC
Latina represents many of the genre’s most talented and successful Latin artists talent in the world and we could not be more excited about their accomplishments and their many triumphs to yet to come.
Since its inception in 1993, SESAC Latina continues to grow by leaps and bounds representing the best of the best in Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Puerto Rico,
Mexico, Panama, Spain, Venezuela to name a few covering all Latin music genres. Well known for offering personalized attention and service that is second to none, SESAC’s stellar one-on-one interaction has resulted in an impressive roster of affiliates and that list continues to flourish. Most recently SESAC Latina was thrilled to sign singer/songwriter/arranger/producer
Carlos Baute
(SGAE) as he is one of the most renowned and successful international artists in Spain.
The
Venezuelan-born Baute is a major superstar in the music world and SESAC is excited to represent such an important artist.
SESAC Latina is also celebrating the signing of
Panamanian songwriter/artist Joey Montana, an exciting new talent who is making major waves on the
Pop/Urban music scene. And 2010 was an especially phenomenal year for SESAC Latina and our top songwriter Miguel Angel Romero, as his song “Dime
Que Me Quieres,” took the top spot in a 17-week reign at #1 on the Billboard radio chart.
Last year, SESAC was honored to celebrate 80 years of providing impeccable service to our songwriters and music publishers.
Reaching such a momentous milestone is a true accomplishment and would not be possible without the incredible talent, hard work and dedication of our songwriting and publishing affiliates.

S on en Carlos Baute factores que intervienen decisivamente en el acto de componer. A ellos se suman "las pataditas en el corazón" que lo asaltan cada vez que siente ese algo que siempre explora a partir de una vivencia y a veces en función de una simple palabra, o una frase. Por eso al producto final lo define como una mezcla entre lo orgánico y lo intuitivo, el fruto de aquello que le dicta su corazón: "Mis historias, de principio a fin, son reales, no inventadas", subraya.
Aún recuerda lo que le decía su propio director musical allá en sus inicios:
"No sigas estudiando tanto, porque podrías desvirtuar esa bendición que tienes como compositor".
Carlos Baute compone en cualquier momento y en cualquier lugar, incluso en el vehículo que lo lleva desde el aeropuerto a una entrevista de radio, como acaba de sucederle en Buenos Aires, ciudad a la que recién llegaba procedente desde España, donde están su casa y su piano. Para empezar a trabajar prefiere la luz del día, pero en muchos casos su mejor cómplice también es la noche con su quietud y su silencio.
Consciente de que su realidad es el motor de su quehacer autoral y de que tiene que hacer largos viajes entre Europa y América, aunque sigue escribiendo con su puño y letra, lo que atesora como mágica valija voladora son cuatro cosas indispensables: la guitarra, atada a su hombro; su "móvil", un celular inteligente multiuso; su computadora, un laptop, y un diminuto teclado portátil.
Los "antes" y "después" se multiplican en la carrera autoral de Carlos
Baute, entre ellos su paso por Los Chamos, su primer gran éxito internacional,
"Te Quise Olvidar" grabado por MDO y luego muchas veces 'versionado' hasta en portugués e inglés.
Otro "antes y después" lo representa "Colgando En Tus Manos" grabado con Marta Sánchez: "Nunca me pareció que pudiera ser un gran hit. Lo cantaba cuando en mi casa los amigos me pedían algo. Transmitía cosas que estaba viviendo en ese momento. Nunca la quise meter en un disco porque no creía que la gente se identificara con ella. La grabé yo solo primero. Menos mal que no le metí mano a la letra. El video lo hice un
Bulgaria".
Su "antes y después" más reciente corresponde a su asociación con
SESAC que, conjuntamente con SGAE, la sociedad española de compositores y editoras, lo representa para Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico:
"Yo creo que todos los compositores y músicos deberían estar en SESAC y disfrutar el trato tan especial y tan personal que nos da a cada uno de nosotros como autores", afirma entusiasta.
Tras el lanzamiento de "Amartebien", el ahora y el después del artista se asoma a una etapa en que sigue fortaleciéndose como cantautor, sobre todo gracias a la positiva reacción que ha encontrado con su tema "Quién
Te Quiere Como Yo", #1 en varios países de América Latina y adoptado para un gigantesco plan de marketing como la canción en que se inspira la campaña publicitaria de una importante compañía de seguros en España.
Además, en Argentina es la canción oficial de una telenovela.
Compositor de más de 300 canciones, emocionales testimonios de sus propias vivencias, durante su carrera artística Carlos Baute ha trabajado con productores tan famosos como Emilio Estefan, Humberto Gatica, Armando
Ávila y Yasmil Marrufo.
Firme en sus ideas, señala que el éxito es un misterio: "El día que te lo crees es tu peor enemigo. Si crees que ya lo alcanzaste, entonces no te vas a exigir más a ti mismo. Se acaba. Cada cosa tiene su nivel. Hay que trabajar y trabajar. Ni pensar en qué compongo ahora después de determinada canción". A mí me surge una frase, sé qué es lo importante que tengo que decir, y de repente, sale alguna melodía o la letra.

Intuition and a keen sixth sense are factors that make all the difference for Carlos Baute when he writes a song.
Every time he digs deep and is inspired by something that happened to him or comes up with a clever word or phrase, he feels “the life beating in his heart”. It is this feeling that assures that his final product is always part organic, part intuitive and the fruit of what his heart demands. "My stories, from beginning to end, are real, not made up," he emphasizes. He can still remember what his musical director told him throughout his early days of music: “Don’t fill your head with formal education, because you could spoil your natural gift as a composer.”
Carlos Baute’s writing knows no boundaries as he writes anywhere at any time, including the vehicle that carried him from the airport to a radio interview. This was precisely the case recently in Buenos Aires as he arrived from his home in Spain. When he sets out to write he normally prefers the light of day, however many times his best accomplice is the night and its silent tranquility. Carlos is fully aware that reality is the engine of his writing. When traveling across the Atlantic as he frequently does, Carlos always carries four indispensible items: a guitar slung over his shoulder, a smart phone, a laptop, and a small keyboard. No matter where he may be in the world, these items help him to compose using his fist and his words.
Throughout his career Carlos Baute has experienced many “befores and afters”. It is these moments that are the turning points and mark the decisive stages of his time with Los Chamos: the "before and after" of his first international hit, "Te Quise Olvidar," recorded by MDO and remade in languages around the world, including English and
Portuguese. Another "before and after" for Carlos is "Colgando En Tus Manos," the iconic, record-setting chart-topper which he performed with Marta Sánchez. "It never seemed to me like it could be a big hit” Carlos admits. ”I sang it around the house whenever my friends asked me to play them something. It communicated things that I was feeling at the time. I never wanted to release it because I didn’t think anyone would identify with it. I first recorded it by myself and thank goodness I didn’t tinker with the lyrics. I recorded the video in Bulgaria."
A lasting phenomenon:
His most recent “before and after” centers on his association with SESAC which together with SGAE, Spain’s
General Society of Authors and Publishers, represents him in the United States and Puerto Rico. “I think every composer and musician should be with SESAC and enjoy all of the special and personalized attention that they give to each of us as songwriters," he says enthusiastically. With the release of his album “Amartebien” the “now and tomorrow” of this artist moves to a new stage where he continues to strengthen himself as a singer/songwriter.
This new era in Carlos career is attributable to the fervent reaction he’s received from the single “Quién Te Quiere Como Yo,” a No. 1 hit in several Latin American countries and recently used in a massive marketing campaign for a Spanish insurance company. What’s more, the song has also been selected as the theme song for a soap opera in Argentina. As the writer of over 300 songs, all of them emotional testimonials of his real-life experiences, Carlos Baute has worked with such legendary producers as Emilio Estefan, Humberto Gatica, Armando Avila and
Yasmin Marrufo but despite all his success, he remains grounded by his ideals.
Carlos is quick to caution that success is a mystery saying, "The day that you believe your success is the day that you become your own worst enemy. If you think you’ve made it, then you won’t push yourself. It’s over. Everything has its level.
You must work and work harder. Don’t think too hard about what to write in a particular song. For me it begins as a meaningful phrase and suddenly lyrics and melody come out.”

Explaining the popularity of “La Melodía,” Joey Montana points to “the song’s danceability, its simplicity and its identification with young people, who dream of being in love. La Melodía’ is also a good title, because it’s metaphorical.” This has become a common theme in his work, which features ideas that “are deeper, with melody and swing, and a message with different lyrics, often drawn from and associated with real life, so people will identify with them.”
After being a member of La Factoría, Joey Montana has used his solo career to give his music a personal vibe. His voice and songwriting style demonstrate a signature touch which is evident on his two albums: “Nueva Era” (Sony Music

Personifying the cultural fusion of her diverse roots, Erika Ender is fluent in Spanish,
Portuguese and English. However her true north has always been music in all its forms. It’s an artistic orientation that has allowed her to enjoy a solo career as a singer-songwriter (her albums are “Ábreme La Puerta” and “Cueste Lo Que Cueste”), while also having her compositions recorded by other artists, including Chayanne, Gloria Trevi, Ednita Nazario, Gilberto Santa
Rosa, Ana Bárbara, Ha Ash, Horóscopos de Durango,and Víctor Manuelle,among others. Additionally, Erika wrote the English version of the crossover chart-topper “A Puro Dolor," recorded by Son By Four.
Currently, Erika is working as a judge on the popular television show “Idol Puerto Rico” a show that follows the American
Idol format. As a judge, Erika shares her talents and requests authenticity from the many contestants on the reality show.

Con más de un año en los charts, con arreglo para banda sinaloense de cumbia lenta romántica "Dime Que Me Quieres" se mantuvo durante 17 semanas en el primer lugar en la lista Regional Mexican de Billboard. "Esa canción nació en la mañanita. íbamos hacia Nogales, que está en la frontera de Arizona", recuerda Miguel Miguel. "Recién salía el sol. Sucedió en abril del
2009. El primer título fue 'Cuando Te Hago Falta'. Pero se le cambió a 'Dime Que
Me Quieres' por sugerencia de 'Poncho' Lizárraga (líder de El Recodo), porque es el verso que más se repite en su letra".
En su faceta de cantante también conocido como El Tacuache, Miguel
Ángel Romero, quien está componiendo desde los 14 años y por su dedicación a tiempo completo al oficio, se considera verdadero "profesional" desde el
2008 en adelante: "Sigo trabajando para hacer canciones del mismo calibre.
Ese es mi compromiso. Acabamos de sacar temas con el Conjunto Atardecer y Chuy Lizárraga.
Además, estamos en la pre-selección de repertorio del próximo disco de El Recodo".

Miguel Angel Romero continues to rack up multiple nominations and awards including the 2011 Billboard Latin
Music Award for ‘Regional Mexican Song of The Year’. On top of that, Miguel Angel’s song “Dime Que Me Quieres” has become the largest hit in the 70+ year history of its performing artist, Banda El Recodo de Don Cruz Lizarraga.
With a smooth, tropical-inspired cumbia rhythm, brassy Sinaloan arrangements and romantic lyrics,“Dime Que
Me Quieres” has spent over a year on the airplay rankings as well as 17 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional
Mexican Airplay chart. “This song was born on an early April morning in 2009. We were going towards Nogales, the town on the border with Arizona,” Miguel Ángel recalls. “Along the way, it came to me. I woke up my band mate, I grabbed a guitar and that was it. The sun had just begun to rise. The original title was ‘Cuando Te Hago Falta.’ But it was changed to ‘Dime Que Me Quieres.’ That was ‘Poncho’ Lizárraga’s (leader of the group Banda El Recodo) idea, because it’s the phrase that’s repeated most often throughout the lyrics.”
Miguel Angel has been writing songs since he was 14, but considers his professional career to have begun in 2008 when his writing matured and he dedicated his life to music full-time. Always setting the bar higher for himself, Miguel now faces another major challenge.“I’m working to make more songs of the same caliber. That’s my commitment,” he stresses. “We just released a song titled ‘Discúlpame’ by Conjunto Atardecer with Chuy Lizárraga and there’s a ballad coming out called ‘Mi Otra Mitad,’ which Alacranes Musical has recorded previously in a Duranguense style.”
“Additionally” Miguel continues, “we are in the pre-selection stages of the tracks to be included in the next Banda
El Recodo album.” The future is bright for this talented composer and SESAC is happy to be along for the ride.
