Writing: In the short story "Tuesday Siesta" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, when the mother and the
daughter first arrive in the town, it is the siesta period. All activities has ceased as the townspeople seek to
escape the heat. However, when the mother and daughter are about to leave the priest’s house, the town
has awakened. What do you think will happen when the two go out into the street? With someone in your
class, together write a follow-up to the story. First, describe what happens when the mother and daughter
head for the cemetery. Be sure to stay true to the characters of the woman and the girl as the author has
revealed them…Second, finish the story with you and your classmate becoming a part of the your
story…you are “transplanted through time and space” and become visitors in the town! What do you do?
