Patricians & Plebeians
Patricians



The patricians held
almost all political power.
Only patricians could be
elected to office.
Fearing that Rome would
be split in two, they
decided it was time to
change the government.
Plebeians



The plebeians, or
common people, were
made up of peasants,
craftspeople, traders, and
other workers.
They called for change in
the government to give
them more say in how
things were run.
They also formed a
council and elected their
own officials.
Today’s Assignment & Simulation

Patricians get their own desk



Each Patrician gets a slave  slave gets chair
Slave must do all the work for themselves & the Patrician
Three plebeians get a desk



Group the rest of the plebeians together
They get one pencil per group and one desk to write on
One person from each group must be the patar familias



If anyone does something wrong, they will be punished
Patar familias can sell family members into slavery
