Journal Assignments
Journal assignments are to be completed (in folder) along with the reading in
class. They must be typed and turned in on the assigned dates. Each journal
should be of acceptable length and completely in-depth. Once journals are
submitted, we will discuss the topics together (so…I suggest you keep an extra
copy of your journals in your folder at all times). Each journal is worth 25 points.
1. List the characters in chapter 1 and identify them to the narrator, Santiago
Nasar, or the town.

7. Speculate on the five-part structure of the work. Is there a progression? A
logic to the presentation? A chronology? Support you speculations with

the concepts of simultaneity, coincidence, and memory. How does each
contribute to Marquez’s presentation of time.
