HP ProLiant Gen8 v2 Ivy Bridge Platform Launch
On September 10, 2013, HP announced the availability of new HP ProLiant Gen 8 v2 servers that use Intel Ivy Bridge processors. HP
has designated the HP/Broadcom 10GbE Flexible LAN on Motherboard (FlexibleLOM) as the BTO and CTO default for select ProLiant
Gen8 v2 BladeSystem server blades with this refresh. However, the HP/Emulex 554FLB FlexibleLOM can easily be selected
in the configurator tools. It’s important to select Emulex when configuring the server blades to provide customers with a seamless
transition from either ProLiant G7 or Gen8 (Sandy Bridge) platforms, wherein customers have been using the HP/Emulex 554FLB
FlexibleLOM. Note, the HP/Emulex 554FLB FlexibleLOM has been and will continue to be the default 10GbE FlexibleLOM for the Sandy
Bridge BladeSystem servers.
How to Choose the HP/Emulex 554FLB FlexibleLOM
Various HP configurator tools are available to use when building existing ProLiant G7, Gen8 (Sandy Bridge) and the new Gen8 v2 (Ivy
Bridge) server blade models. Some examples include Sales Builder For Windows (SBFW), Watson, and Public Simplified Configuration
Environment (SCE). The screen shots below show how to select the HP/Emulex 554FLB as the FlexibleLOM adapter. It’s crucial to verify
that the HP/Emulex 554FLB adapter is selected in this field such that customers don’t inadvertently receive another selection that
they are not expecting.
The HP/Broadcom 534FLB is the default
FlexibleLOM for HP’s Gen8 v2 Ivy Bridge server
blades.
Click the drop down menu to display all
available options to replace the HP/Broadcom
FlexibleLOM.
Highlight the HP/Emulex 554FLB Emulex
FlexibleLOM option.
Once the HP/Emulex 554FLB is highlighted it
now becomes the Flexible LOM selection for this
CTO Gen8 v2 server blade.
