Alberta’s Best Trade and Technology Students to
Compete at Nationals
EDMONTON, Alberta — May 22, 2013 – 700 High School and Post-Secondary students
competed in the 21st Provincial Skills Canada Competition on May 15-16, 2013 at the
Edmonton EXPO Centre. Students competed in 43 trade and technology competitions. Over
10,000 spectators showed their support and took part in Try-A-Trades® to find their own
interests in the trades.
At the PSCC, 62 students earned a position on Team Alberta and will represent the province at
the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC), June 5-8, 2013 in Vancouver. The members
of Team Alberta will receive a $500 WorldSkills Calgary 2009 Legacy Scholarship, and an
additional $500 if they earn gold at the national competition.
“Schools in record numbers are recognizing the importance of developing and supporting
students’ individual talents in the trades and technologies,” notes Shawna Bourke, Director of
Communications. “Through Skills Canada Alberta, industry, labour, education and government
partners have joined forces to create innovative experiential learning that goes beyond the walls
of traditional classrooms.”
