Hunter’s Green Elementary School Task Force
The HGCA Board asked fellow Board member, Liz Wortley, to develop the Hunter’s Green Elementary
School Task Force to begin working to identify ways to return our namesake grade school to the Blue
Ribbon A rating it once held. The Board recognized that our efforts needed to be focused at how we can
help going forward and with that in mind we have gathered pertinent data, discussed possible solutions
and considered the many dynamics of the community’s concerns.
One factor reviewed by the Task Force is the impact of SchoolChoice, a program whereby students can
choose to attend other area schools within our choice area instead of their home school. We currently
have more than 100 Hunter’s Green students who have elected to attend other schools. This contributes to lower enrollment numbers which then becomes a catalyst for balancing to achieve enrollment
requirements for the school’s capacity.
The HGCA Board of Directors has reached out to the Hillsborough County School District for their consideration in regard to a possible re-districting or boundary adjustments that could alleviate crowding at
other area schools such as Hilda Turner and Pride Elementary thereby returning students to Hunter’s
Green.
We have made positive inroads with community residents volunteering at the school. Our talks with
Principal McMeen have been successful in identifying the problems and positive ways that our group
can impact the school.
We want to encourage Hunter’s Green families to come back and help the school reclaim the former
status. We will continue to provide information on the progress of the Task Force in our newsletters. If
you are interested in making a positive contribution to the task force, please email Liz Wortley at
lwtampa@msn.com.

A Note from the Association Office
Tracy Lang, LCAM
Dear Residents:
With the onset of spring, Hunter’s Green
begins its list of improvements and
maintenance in preparation for a busy
summer season. This year, the Board
of Directors has approved a number of
exciting improvements.
The resurfacing of our sports courts
including the tennis and basketball courts
at Nathaniel Hunter Park will begin on
May 5th with completion anticipated
on May 16th. The courts will be closed
during that time, so we ask that you
make alternate arrangements during this
time. The courts are for the enjoyment
of our homeowners, residents and their
accompanied guests. Please limit your
play to one hour while others are waiting.
No reservations can be made for these
common area courts and extended play,
exclusive use by any group, person or
persons is not permitted. Please note
that the courts may NOT be used in the
transaction of any business or for
individual profit in any manner.
We are also planning some enhancements
to our main playground located at
Nathaniel Hunter Park. The sand will be
removed and replaced with synthetic
mulch. The new mulch will provide a
cleaner more sanitary environment for
our little ones and it meets the ASTM 1292
requirements and will provide better
cushioning from falls. The changeover
should be complete by May 2nd.
The Board also continues to systematically
move through Hunter’s Green with the
re-paving of our roads. On the schedule
for 2014-15 are Hunter’s Lake Drive and
Hunter’s Oak Drive. This will also include
the removal of the existing Bomanite
entries, which will be eliminated and
replaced with asphalt.
We hope these improvements continue
to make Hunter’s Green a desirable
community in which to live and play. The
HGCA Board and Association staff values
the commitment to keep Hunter’s Green
maintained at the level our homeowners
and residents have come to expect.
If you ever have any questions that I can
answer for you, please do not hesitate to
contact me at 813-991-4818.

SPRING TRASH AND TREASURE SALE
The buyers showed up, the rain held off, and a good time was had by all. We had furniture, empanadas, Girl Scout cookies, tools, jewelry, handbags, lemonade, coffee and donuts, clothing, books
and more! There were crowds at the tables, and some of the vendors sold out early. The parking
lot and Highland Oak Drive were filled to capacity with people looking for bargains. It was a great
success!

Got Leash?
Top Reasons to Leash Your Dog
1) It’s the Law of Your Land….and you agreed to it. The HGCA governing documents
specifically require all dogs outside of their residence to be on leash. When you
moved to Hunter’s Green, you agreed to abide by these covenants.
2) Everyone is entitled to quiet and equal enjoyment of the common areas and should
not have to deal with an off-leash dog for any reason.
3) Not everyone is able to withstand being sniffed, chased, or jumped on by your dog.
Even good dogs sometimes jump up and to a small child or fearful adult, this is very
frightening.
4) It’s the right thing to do.
