Student Edition Labs
From the CourseMate
homepage for your
textbook, first select the
chapter you’ll be
working with.
Next, click “Student
Edition Labs” at the
bottom of the menu.
Selecting the Correct Lab
• There are two student edition labs
in this chapter.
• The lab “Understanding the
Motherboard” has 6 topics.
• Make sure to complete ALL
topics in a lab.
• Complete the topics in the order
as provided.
• Start a topic: “Introduction to
Understanding the Motherboard”
•
You will see the selected chapter in the
breadcrumbs at the top of the page.
•
Click “Home” to return to the main
page of the textbook.
Starting a Lab topic
• To start the topic,
click “Start”.
• From this page, you
can also see your
previous takes, the
number of takes
allowed, and your
previous high score.
• You can take a lab
how ever many times
you want, but only
labs completed prior
to the assignment
deadline will be
counted.
Learning modes and navigation
•
Your lab will appear in a
hovering window. It may take
some time to load.
•
Each lab has several learning
modes (Intro, Observe,
Practice and Review). The
mode you are currently on is
highlighted - Intro
•
To navigate between learning modes, use the “Continue” and “Back” buttons
near the bottom. Or click on the mode you want directly.
Observe
The Observe mode of the lab
runs similar to a presentation
with slides.
To start the Observe,
press the Play button.
Continue the
presentation to a new
slide by clicking Next.
Or play the
presentation from start
to finish by clicking
Play All.
Observe Complete!
When you complete the Observe section of the
lab, click “Continue” to move on.
Practice
The Practice mode of
the lab moves you
through demos step
by step.
Click where instructed
to move forward.
Practice
You may be asked to drag
an object or trace a line.
Your cursor will turn into a
hand when you are
correctly completing the
task.
Practice Complete!
Again, click “Continue” when ready to
move onto the next mode.
Review
In the Review mode, you will be
asked questions to review the
information presented in the lab.
Once you select an answer, click
“Submit”. Your answer will be
recorded and you will automatically
move to the next question.
You can use the Next and Back
buttons at the bottom to skip
questions or go back and change
your answers.
Review Complete!
When you have finished the Review, click
“Results” to see how you did.
Results
•
The results screen
will show you the
correct answers for
all review questions,
and which you got
correct.
•
Remember, you can
retake labs as many
times as you want
and best score
courts!
•
When you understand and are satisfied with your score, click “Submit for Grading”
to complete the lab. Don’t close any windows until the submission is complete (see
the next slide).
Performance report for a topic and
finding other topics to continue
•
After completing a lab topic by
submitting for grading a lab
topic, your score will be added
to the previous takes list.
•
You may now move to the next
topic of this lab by clicking on:
•
Student Edition Labs
•
Integrated Circuits
Complete this topic by
following the same steps
as before.
• Make sure you complete all
lab topics, there are six in
this lab.
•
To meet the requirements,
you must complete each
topic with a grade of at lease
80%!
Lab Results Submission
You do NOT need to submit your lab results separately because …
• Every time after you complete a topic in a student edition lab, a performance entry will be
added under its “Previous Takes” – performance history of this topic



•
Achieve at least an 80% score for a topic in order to include the topic’s credit in the overall lab.
In the previous screen, the lab “Understanding the Motherboard” has 6 topics.
Your lab results will be visible automatically from the instructor’s end IF

•
Take as many times as you like before due date
You should compete all topics in a student edition lab if the lab is part of an assignment.


You have purchased the textbook in CourseMate and enrolled in the course led by your instructor,
which is Start-up Task 2 in the Course Introduction module.
Occasionally, there can be a delay for your lab results to appear at the instructor’s end. In
this case, you will be contacted to provide your lab results.
