Agencies Govt should ensure Modi returns to face probe: Chidambaram CHENNAI, JUN 17: Rejecting allegations of vendetta levelled against him and the UPA, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram today demanded that the government should ensure that Lalit Modi returns to India to face the probe by Enforcement Directorate on various charges, including money laundering. Addressing a press conference, he said External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's action in helping the tainted former IPL boss get travel documents from the UK was in violation of rules and a case of favouritism shown to someone she knew. He also demanded as to who decided not to appeal against the Delhi High Court decision to restore the passport of Modi last year as normally a reversing decision is always challenged in a higher court. The Congress leader wanted the government to release the letters exchanged between him as Finance Minister and the Chancellor of Exchequer George Osborne in which he had urged for sending Modi back to India since he was facing criminal charges here. He said after the reply to his first letter, he had written a second letter couched in stronger words to Osborne that Modi was facing investigations in India, his passport has been revoked, he had no right to live in the UK and he should be sent back to India. PTI Centre, Kejriwal just making empty promises: Rahul Delay in OROP shows difference in what NDA 'preaches and practises': Congress NEW DELHI, JUN 17: Rahul Gandhi today attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying change cannot be brought by merely making promises and alleged that poor were being deprived of their rights in the name of development. Putting his weight behind sanitation workers from civic bodies agitating for payment of salary dues at Jantar Mantar here, the Congress Vice President sought to link their demands with the "honour" of the poor and said he would stand by them for any cause to put up a united fight. "This is not a fight for Delhi's cleanliness, a fight for the country's cleanliness. This is a fight for your honour. I wanted to bring some of my strength amongst you.... Together we will show what your strength is," he said, offering his unstinted support for the oppressed sections of society. Attacking the Prime Minister and Delhi CM, he said, "Modiji and Kejriwal think that after merely making promises they can bring about a change. No change can be brought by making promises. A change can be brought only after Pappu Yadav manhandles air-hostess, threatens to beat her with 'chappal' NEW DELHI, JUN 17: The dark side of the VIP culture came to light once again when MP Pappu Yadav alias Rajesh Ranjan manhandled an air-hostess and threatened to beat her with his 'chappals' on-board a Patna-Delhi Jet Airways flight. The commotion began after the MP dropped dessert on his bag which was kept near his feet and ordered the flight crew to clean it by showing his chappal to them, according to a TOI report. In her complaint, the air-hostess has also stated that Pappu Yadav manhandled her and pushed her forcefully while alighting from the plane. Moreover, the MP didn't even follow the safety instructions when he was flying. Captain Rajesh Singh Sehgal of flight 9W 728, where the incident took place, alerted Delhi air traffic control about it and asked to be put ahead of other planes lined up for landing in Delhi. Agencies standing here and exerting pressure." Addressing the safai karamcharis for the second time in six days, he said, "You may think I have come to speak for safai karamcharis. These speeches are for the poor farmers, labourers, safai karamcharis and all those weak and oppressed of the entire country." Vowing to fight for the rights of weaker sections, which the party is keen to woo back, Rahul said, "I am standing with you, whereever you want. For one day, 10 days, 50 days or 100 days."
