Learning Lab (Drop in basis)
Communications Lab (Comm Lab--Yellow)
The Communications Lab supports students with writing assignments, group projects and class presentations. The tutor assists
students by
o clarifying the assignment
o teaching how to brainstorm and outline prior to writing
o giving feedback on organization of drafts of writing or presentation assignments
o teaching how to correct grammar and sentence structure errors
o showing appropriate methods for documenting sources and avoiding plagiarism
o modeling how to proof read and edit work
o facilitating group projects involving reports
o providing feedback on PowerPoint presentations
Math Lab (Blue)
The Math Lab supports students taking MATH, BMAT, and STAT courses. The tutor may guide students toward on-line
resources to improve their math skills.
Study Skills Lab (Strat Drop In--Yellow)
The Learning Strategist works with students on time management, managing time and being organized
o reading academic text
o taking effective notes in class
o remembering important information
o preparing for exams
o strategies for taking exams
The lab tutors assist students understand course concepts but do not correct mistakes or fix assignments. The tutors are aware
of and avoid academic misconduct as noted in policy AC 3.4.1 Student Code of Conduct. Students are expected to come to the
lab prepared with their course material, assignment description and specific questions that they want addressed. Students are
encouraged to work on their assignments in the lab while waiting for the tutor to provide assistance.
