Mathletics in your school
Helping your child to love learning
and achieve more in maths
What is Mathletics?
• An online maths resource that children can access with unique login
details - anywhere, anytime.
• Allows students to practise maths concepts taught in school and
become quicker at mental maths.
• Based on National Curriculum.
• Contains fun problem solving games, a concept search tool, times
tables songs and more.
How is it used?
• Children can access in own time and practise activities available.
• Teachers can set homework tasks on Mathletics – pupils can’t visit
other areas of the program until teacher tasks are completed.
• Teachers can monitor progress through their Teacher Centre.
• Children are rewarded for continued progress and participation
with points, certificates and credits to spend on their avatar in the
online shop.
Reward structure
• Live Mathletics: 1 correct answer = 1 point
• Curriculum activities: 1 correct answer = 10 points
• Certificates: maximum of 1 per week
– 1000 points in a week = 1 bronze certificate
– 5 bronze certificates = 1 silver certificate
– 4 silver certificates = 1 gold certificate
• Points: Awarded to students as they successfully
complete Live Mathletics and Curriculum Content
within Mathletics. The points contribute to their
earning of certificates and a place in the Hall of
Fame.
• Credits: These are earned by participating in Live
Mathletics and the Curriculum Content. These
credits allow students to purchase items for their
online avatar. This is a fun and engaging way for
students to personalise their experience,
encouraging a greater investment in their efforts
and results.
• Hall of Fame: Allows students, classes and
schools, both nationally and internationally, to
be recognised for their success on a public
leaderboard. A student Hall of Fame updates
daily, allowing for more students to have the
opportunity to appear, while the class and
school Hall of Fame resets each week.

certificates)
As pupils achieve 85% or more in
activities they gain gold bars, which
are recorded here. These unlock
games in the Problem Solving area
Exciting times tables songs

A great maths
dictionary tool
• Live Mathletics: A game-like arena where students
can compete in real time to master basic maths
skills against students from all over the world. An
intelligent ranking system ensures that students are
challenged, but not discouraged, and a personal
best bar is always displayed to motivate students to
improve further. A ‘three strikes and you’re out’
system reinforces the need for accuracy as students
develop greater speed and mental computational
ability. One point per correct question answered
provides ongoing rewards and helps to balance
student activity between fun, basic maths skillbuilding activities and Curriculum Content.
How you can help
•
Encourage your child to access Mathletics three to five times a week, for 20 minutes
each time.
•
Complete Mathletics tasks set by class teacher each week. Provide child with a piece of
paper and pencil to work out questions.
•
Remind them to use the question mark help button when doing an activity to get an
explanation. Get your child to use this online tutor as much as possible when stuck on
a concept before asking parents for help. It helps them to develop their independence.
•
Play Live Mathletics to practise mental number operation skills.
•
Encourage use of Problem Solving activities (real-life maths situations), Concept Search
(for mathematical vocabulary definitions) and Rainforest Maths.
•
Encourage use of Times Tables Toons – great for children to remember their times
tables and the inverse operations of division.
•
Print and display certificates when they are achieved to reward your child.
