The following sections describe the features and updates for V2R6.1.1: • New features for V2R6.1.1 • Requests for change (RFCs), which describe features that have been implemented for V2R6.1.1 • Software discrepancy reports (DRs) that describe changes to the V2R6.1.1 software that affect user documentation • Reserved words in V2R6.1.1 New Features Teradata Database on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 with More Than Four Nodes Starting with V2R6.1.1, Teradata Database is available on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 on more than four nodes, with a few limitations. Teradata Database V2R6.1.1 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 does not support the following: • Channel-attached systems. • Data migration from 64-bit SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 to 32-bit platforms (MP-RAS and Windows). • Full upgrade and backdown. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 requires a fresh installation. In addition, some row sizes and data types increase in width for 64-bit architectures. For more information on this and for detailed requirements for running Teradata Database V2R6.1.1 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 on more than four nodes, see the Base System Release Definition for V2R6.1.1. Requests for Change Requests for Change (RFCs) provide a mechanism for introducing new features and tracking major enhancements to existing features. V2R6.1.1 Release Summary 1 Chapter 1: V2R6.1.1 Features and Discrepancy Reports Requests for Change Note: For most maintenance releases, changes to the user documentation in response to RFCs are documented only in the Release Summary and are added to the individual Teradata books for the next major or minor release. RFCs in V2R6.1.1 The following RFCs have been incorporated into V2R6.1.1. RFC Description Teradata Books Affected 57103 With the exception of DBS replacement characters, all double-byte characters from the Unicode 4.1 standard are now be accepted into the database. Quadruple-byte characters represented by surrogates are not supported. Previously, only characters from the Unicode 2.1 standard were supported. • International Character Set Support • Introduction to Teradata Warehouse Other changes from this DR include: • The User-Defined Area from U E000 to U F8FF (inclusive) is accepted into the database. • Users can now enter and retrieve U F8FF directly into the database. Because U F8FF continues to be used by the database as the vargraphic error character, users of Graphic data may be affected. 96214 For SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 only: None This RFC enables the front panel dump switch on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 nodes with Teradata Database installed. The code is being moved from a separate package, panicnmi, to part of PDE. The change will be picked up in the required fresh installation of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9. In order to use the dump switch on non-TPA nodes, customers need to install the panicnmi package. 97030 For SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 only: None This RFC ports the internal tool gettbl to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9. The gettbl tool determines which database table is associated with a bad sector on a disk. 101279 For SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 only: None Whenever a user tries to set a new desired version for PDE, ctl checks that the version is available on the system. If the desired version is not available, ctl sends an error message. 2 V2R6.1.1 Release Summary Chapter 1: V2R6.1.1 Features and Discrepancy Reports Software Discrepancy Reports RFC Description Teradata Books Affected 101280 For SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 only: None GPL-compliant PDE driver source code is installed on customer systems, which will automatically compile the source when a new SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 kernel is installed. Customers will be able to run on a newly released SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 kernel without installing a new PDE package. 101429 For SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 only: This DR standardizes the default locations used by Teradata Database for dump, temp, and config directories. The default directories are changed to: • Teradata Replication Solutions Overview • Database Administration • Utilities Configuration directory: /etc/opt/teradata/ tdconfig Temporary directory: /var/opt/teradata/tdtemp Dump directory: /var/opt/teradata/tddump Software Discrepancy Reports Discrepancy Reports (DRs) provide a mechanism for tracking updates and corrections to software and to the documentation affected by updates. Teradata plans to incorporate all updates documented here into appropriate user documentation and republish the Teradata book set at the next major or minor release. The exceptions to the above for Teradata Database V2R6.1.1 are the following documents for internal users: • Upgrading to V2R6.1.1 on NCR UNIX MP-RAS and Linux Systems • Upgrading to V2R6.1.1 on Microsoft Windows Systems • Migrating Data to V2R6.1.1 These books are being published to support V2R6.1.1 and have been revised in accordance with the DRs that affect them. These books are available at: http://infocentral.daytonoh.ncr.com/tsd-library/iSupr.cfm DRs in V2R6.1.1 The following DRs are part of V2R6.1.1. V2R6.1.1 Release Summary 3 Chapter 1: V2R6.1.1 Features and Discrepancy Reports Reserved Words in V2R6.1.1 Teradata Books Affected DR Description 99282 SHOW TYPE No Longer Displays CAST Information As of V2R6.1.1, users executing the SHOW TYPE command for User Defined Types (UDTs) will see only information about TYPE, ORDERING, and TRANSFORM. SHOW TYPE will no longer display CAST information. To see CAST information, a user must issue the new command SHOW CAST <UDT name>. 99763 Following an intermediary failure in maximum protection mode, when Teradata attempts to re-establish connection to the GoldenGate server, Teradata Dynamic Workload Manager may be busy. If it is busy, the connection will be unsuccessful and a 3310 error will be returned. The user must retry the connection to GoldenGate. The DBS will be unaffected. • SQL Reference: Fundamentals • SQL Reference: Data Definition Statements Teradata Replication Solutions Overview Reserved Words in V2R6.1.1 Restrictions exist in all Teradata Database releases against the use of certain terminology in SQL queries and in other user application programs that interface with the Teradata Database. There are no new reserved words for V2R6.1.1. However, you should review your SQL queries and application programs for use of reserved words if either of the following are true • V2R6.1.1 is your first Teradata Database release. • You are upgrading to Teradata Database V2R6.1.1 from a release earlier than V2R6.1. Some words were newly reserved in V2R6.1.0. Searching for Reserved Words Refer to the following publications for more information on reserved words.
