BMS201
NATIONAL EDUCATION
[15 HOURS]
This module aims to develop national cohesion, the instinct for survival and confidence in the
future through a series of six key messages on Singapore’s recent history as well as the
present. The curriculum uses both in-class and outside-class activities to inculcate desirable
individual and social values, and attitudes of good citizenship. This module provides
students with the understanding of Singapore’s past, present and future. It focuses on how
Singapore succeeded against the odds in the past; the challenges, constraints and
vulnerabilities that Singapore faces; and the need to uphold Singapore’s continuing success
and well-being.
(Compulsory – auto-registered for students)

INTRODUCTION TO FRENCH LANGUAGE
[30 HOURS]
This module aims to give students an understanding of basic French language to expand
their appreciation of a new foreign language, culture and people. Through this module,
students will acquire basic communication skills that they can apply to everyday situations.

INTRODUCTION TO GERMAN LANGUAGE
[30 HOURS]
This module aims to give students an understanding of basic German language to expand
their appreciation of a new foreign language, culture and people. Through this module,
students will acquire basic communication skills that they can apply to everyday situations.

INTRODUCTION TO JAPANESE LANGUAGE
[30 HOURS]
This module aims to give students an understanding of basic Japanese language to expand
their appreciation of a new foreign language, culture and people. Through this module,
students will acquire basic communication skills that they can apply to everyday situations.

BUSINESS CHINESE
[30 HOURS]
This module aims to give students an understanding of working with people and doing
business using the Chinese language. It expands their understanding not only on the
Chinese language but also appreciating the Chinese culture. Through this module, student
will practise business Mandarin that they can apply in their future workplace.
(Pre-requisite GCE “O” level C6 or better for Chinese Language)

INTRODUCTION TO KOREAN LANGUAGE
[30 HOURS]
This module aims at enabling students to communicate in Korean orally and in writing. On
completion of this module, students will recognize the writing system of Hangul and be able
to read out words & sentences in Korean. They will be able to sustain very simple
conversation related to everyday life situations, to read and understand signs and simple
narrative texts about everyday situations. Topics will include self-introduction, greeting,
country/city/nationality, professions, age, relationship with family members, dates, day of the
week, time, weather, seasons, food and drink, parts of the body, likes and dislikes, quantity
and prices, colours, directions and a glimpse of the Korean culture.

INTERNATIONAL FILM APPRECIATION & CRITIQUE
[15 HOURS]
This module offers students an opportunity to develop a basic appreciation and
understanding of the aesthetics and language of films. This module is based on an active
learning model that comprises interactive sessions and feedback providing triggers and
guidelines that will enable students to better understand and appreciate films.

UNDERSTANDING CSR & THE COMMUNITY
[15 HOURS]
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is now a must for building a trusted company or brand.
This module will look at how businesses can practice social responsibility and still be
profitable. A company with a good CSR record is also one that will take better care of its
employees, the community and the environment. You will also find out how companies are
turning to social innovation and partnering social enterprises to tackle society’s biggest
challenges. More importantly, this module will help you become change-makers for better
business in your future career.

UNDERSTANDING CHINA’S BUSINESS & CULTURE
[15 HOURS]
This module aims to introduce China recent political, economic and social environment to
students so as to provide them with an awareness of general business climate in China
today. Students will learn about the economic development of some key cities such as
Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou, and some key Singapore/China collaboration
projects in China. Students will also be introduced the general Chinese mindset and
business culture, which include basic business etiquette and protocol.

BUILDING INNER RESILIENCE
[15 HOURS]
Emotional Resilience can be referred as the capacity to withstand stress and catastrophe.
Psychologists have long recognized the capabilities of humans to adapt and overcome risk
and adversity. Resilience is found in a variety of behaviours, thoughts, and actions that can
be learned and developed across the life span. This module helps to develop untapped
potential that is holding one back from success by learning the positive thinking patterns that
build one’s mental toughness, resilience and effectiveness.

LEADERSHIP FOR CAREER SUCCESS
[15 HOURS]
This module aims to help students realise, develop and enhance their leadership
skills and potential to become successful professionals in their career. Through
interactive lessons and activities, students will learn how to effectively apply the
various leadership skills and techniques leading teams to achieve the desired goals
in the work-place context

RESUME WRITING & INTERVIEW SKILLS
[15 HOURS]
This module highlights on the importance of professional resume and interview skills to get
students that job. It offers students a practical approach on how to write an effective and
impressive resume. It also introduces techniques and skills to prepare students for job
interviews.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
[15 HOURS]
This module provides students with an appreciation of the importance and competitive
advantage of being able to think critically in a fast-moving global environment. Students will
learn about the critical thinking process and the different critical thinking strategies through
various methodologies, including mind games. The module will enable students to analyse
and interpret problems, critically evaluate them and use the most appropriate strategy to
solve the problems at hand.
