Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics between the ages of 18 years and 59
years (inclusive). On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be
takenaccordingtoeachone’sneeds,buttogethertheyshouldnotequalanotherfullmeal.Eatingbetweenmealsisnot
permitted, but liquids are allowed. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy

sharemorefullyandtocelebratemorereadilyHisResurrection(USCCB).

We are all familiar with the story of TheWizardofOz. There’s Dorothy, who wants to get back to Kansas. There’s the
CowardlyLion,who’slookingforcourage.There’stheScarecrow,who’slookingforabrainbecausesomecrowtoldhim
hewasstupidandhebelievedit.Andthere’stheTinWoodsman,who’stryingto indaheartinordertodemonstrate
somesensitivity.TheyallgotoseetheWizard,whoprovestobeafraud.
Butasthestoryunfolds,youdiscoverwho’sthemostcourageousoneinthegroup.It’stheLioncalledcowardly.Who
thinksupthebestideas?It’stheScarecrowwhosupposedlyhasnobrain.Whoisitthatshowsthemostcompassion?It’s
theheartlessTinWoodsman.AndDorothy?She’sneverleftKansasatall;it’sonlyadream.Theycometorealizethatonly
aftertheWizardofOzcallsittotheirattention.
Manypeopledonotrealizehowgiftedandtalentedtheyreallyare.Manyordinaryindividualsdonotknowthatthere’sa

K of C Annual Spiritual Growth Retreat
Lent is the perfect time to grow in our personal spiritual
journeys, and the Knights of Columbus have planned their
Annual Council Retreat with that thought in mind. All

VisitingtheHolyDoor- During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis is
encouraging everyone to make a pilgrimage to a diocesan cathedral or any
other designated church where there will be a Holy Door of Mercy. In the
Diocese of Venice there are two such locations: Epiphany Cathedral, 350
Tampa Ave. W., Venice, and Our Lady of Mercy Parish (note the name), 240
