Beth Shapiro, Associate Professor of Ecology, featured recently in a KQED TV special for her
work on extinct passenger pigeons, will speak on "The Science and Ethics of De-extinction"
(Why Mammoths and Passenger Pigeons are Not in Our Future.) September 18, 2014.
Marilyn (Lyn) Walker, Professor of Computer Science, head of the Natural Language and
Dialogue Systems Lab, and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies in the Baskin’s School
of Engineering will speak on “Siri, I’m bored, tell me a story”: Creating Machines to Understand
