Fall 2015 BME X77 Contract Requirements
• Eligible Faculty Supervisors: Students who wish to register for BME X77 may perform research under professors who
are members of the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Studies Committee (GSC), www.bme.utexas.edu/graduateprogram/gsc-members. If you wish to perform research under a UT Austin professor who is not on the BME GSC,
please email their full name and title to Chase Dawkins, Associate Academic Advisor, at c.dawkins@austin.utexas.edu
for prior approval before completing this form.
• Research Time Frame: BME students who register for BME X77 this fall must perform research throughout the entirety
of the fall semester. BME 377 requires a minimum of 9 hours per week, 277 requires a minimum of 6 hours per week,
and 177 requires a minimum of 3 hours per week. A student may not register for BME X77 with the expectation of
receiving credit for research performed in past or future semesters.
• Credit Toward Degree: BME students may register for BME X77(X) multiple times, and may count up to three (3) credit
hours toward their BME degree as Engineering/Senior Elective credit depending upon their specific course catalog. A
letter grade must be earned each time BME X77(X) is taken. Does not count toward a Technical Area Elective credit.
• Research Symposium: Credit for BME X77 requires participation in the Undergraduate Research Symposium from
3:30-5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4. A research poster and participation in the symposium are required.
• Consequences of Not Meeting Requirements: Failure to meet the above requirements and any additional
requirements from your faculty supervisor will result in the lowering of your final grade, including the potential for a
failing grade or an incomplete (X). Please take this research opportunity seriously and clarify hours and further
requirements and expectations with your faculty supervisor.
I, (print your name)
, have read and understand the above requirements for
BME X77. I understand that failure to meet these requirements may result in a low grade, failing grade, or an incomplete. I
understand that I am the sole responsible person for ensuring these requirements are met, including registration for the
correct course during the semester that my research is performed. I understand that I can ask for clarification from Chase
Dawkins, Associate Academic Advisor in BME 3.308, at any time. By signing below, I agree to these terms.
