“Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ by nurturing the congregation, ministering to the community and around
the world, and by providing a place for inspiring worship, study and authentic Christian fellowship.”
Like all Carolina fans, I was greatly saddened to hear about the
passing of coaching legend Dean Smith. I remember growing
up listening to the UNC games on the radio and playing basketball at the Church while imagining making the last shot in a
comeback for Coach Smith much like the famous 8 points in 17
seconds game in 1974.
Coach Smith had amazing records, 879 wins, 17 ACC Championships, 11 Final Fours, and 2 NCAA Championships; all of
which is very impressive. But I respect him more for his wisdom off the court than on, as he was instrumental in the integration of ACC athletics as well as the town of Chapel Hill.
One famous quote of Coach Smith's has been making the
rounds recently: "You should never be proud of doing the right
thing. You should just do it."
Jesus said something very much like this in Matthew 6:1. Be
careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to
be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your
Father in heaven.
March 8
New Member: Robert “Rob” Hollingsworth from Hilo UMC,
Hilo, Hawaii into fellowship at Flat Rock UMC. on Sunday,
February 15. Rob is the son of Dody Hollingsworth. Please
introduce yourself to him whenever you see him at church.
Did you know we collect Campbell soup labels? Save this
portion from your cans and bring them into church. See a
UMW if you have questions.
In other words, the motivation for our good works should not
be to cause others to look at us more favorably, but to please
our Father in heaven. The temptation of pride is very strong
for all of us, whether we be regular folks like you and me or a
Hall of Fame basketball coach.
During Lent, we have the opportunity to examine lives, our
hearts, and our motives. Are you doing good works in order to
be praised by people, or are you doing them because that is
what it means to follow Jesus? I encourage you to learn from
Coach Smith and the other examples of humility and service in
our lives to do the right thing.
God Bless,
Pastor Tim
Ana is studying in Spain for the next few
months. If you would like to send her a card,
please see someone at church for her address.
Remember, international stamps cost more
than US. Check with post office for rate.

Rockingham County Deputies.
Good Samaritan Food
“Building for the Future” update:
Building Fund giving for January was $4,250.00 and the
total given to date is $668,278.06. (Note: Our monthly
mortgage is $2,119.00).
The food needs for March will be announced in the bulletin next Sunday. Thank You for your continued help each
month. REMEMBER: If you wish to purchase an entire
box of food, just give $25 to Jill Joyner (check made out
to Bi-Rite).
Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not
recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
