Subject: Science
Topic:
* Cells
Grade Level: 7
Lesson Duration (Days/Sessions):
* 2 to 3 days
Equipment/Supplies Needed:
* iPod Touch devices
* Student Lesson Instructions
* Paper and pencil
Collaboration with the following teacher(s):
*
*
Alignment to TN Standards (SPIs):
* SPI 0707.1.1Identify and describe the function of the major plant and animal cell organelles.
Objective(s): 1) The learner will create a comic of a plant or animal cell identifying each of the
cell parts. 2) The learner will edit pre-created flashcards to create a set for practice in
describing the functions of the major plant and animal cell organelles.
Process (include strategies and activities):
* Students will review parts of plant and animal cells by watching a video about each.
* Next, they will use Cell 3D and/or Inside Organelles apps and designated websites to
explore cell structures in preparation for labeling and describing organelles of plant and
animal cells.
* Students will then create a comic labeling major organelles in a plant or animal cell.
* After emailing the comic to the teacher or sharing it via iPevo with the class, students will
create flashcards for the 10 major organelles and use those to practice describing each
organelle. Students will swap devices to practice flashcards of other students and share their
scores with the teacher.
* As time allows, students can use Study Stack games to further practice labeling and
describing functions of cells.
Assessment:
* Formative - Teacher questioning of students as they review apps/completed flashcards
* Summative - completed comic and scores from flashcard tests of other students
