HELP SHEET:
Adapting the SATs Analysis Spreadsheets
1. Select the ‘Question
Analysis Paper 1’ tab
at the bottom of the
excel screen.
2. Via the EDIT icon delete the
contents of the section of
the table highlighted. NB/
Do not enter any data in the
% column.
3. You can now type in the
question numbers, questions, attainment target, level/grade and number
of marks for each question. You can enter up to 60 separate questions.
4. Repeat for paper 2 (on the ‘Question Analysis Paper 2’ sheet) and any
mental test (on the ‘Mental Analysis’ sheet) you have.
All information will automatically be copied to the ‘Results List’ sheet.
5. Use the tab at the bottom
of the page to return to
the ‘Results List’ sheet. To
change the title of the
test you must remove the
protection from the sheet.
Via TOOLS,
PROTECTION,
UNPROTECT SHEET.
Type the name of the test
in the cell indicated plus
additional details in the
white cells.

6. If you wish to enter
level or grade
thresholds, this should
be done on this page.
The information is held
in the bottom RHS of
this sheet under the
Overall Results. You can
have 5 levels assigned.
7. Go back to TOOLS and protect
the sheet.
8. Tidy up the columns using the
Control button.
9. For aesthetic purposes, you need
to alter the bar charts to fill the
page. Select ‘BARCHART P1’ tab,
RIGHT CLICK in the bar chart and
select SOURCE DATA.
A menu will appear and you will
automatically be switched to
the Analysis sheet. In the
formula change the 2 final
row numbers to match the
row number for your last
question. Select OK.

10. Then alter the levels and boundaries on the
RESULTS page and the first PUPIL REPORT.
11. If you want the spreadsheet to count the number of pupils at each
grade or level you should alter the count box in the SUMMARY sheet.
You can do this by changing the text as you would in word and then
altering the formula in
the counter cells.
(Change the last value
to the grade you wish to
count.)
Remember if you had to switch off the protection, then you will
need to turn it back on.
