YEAR 7 ICT INDEPENDENT LEARNING PROJECT 1
You have recently been creating an animated game
based on the attack and defence of a medieval castle.
The sprites that were available to you in the Scratch
library were not particularly good. Your task is to design
some new sprites that would be better for a future version
of the game.
This is what you will do:
1.
Design a better version of an invading soldier.
Research costumes /uniforms of medieval soldiers and then produce
your design. You should draw initial versions or sketches by hand but
the final version must be a in a gif file format.
You should produce at least two versions of your soldier (just like the
sprites here)
So that he can be made to appear to move.
2. Design a person (civilian) who is defending the castle. They can be
male or female and they should be in medieval civilian clothing.
This person should also have two versions so that they can appear to
move.
Write a list of the characteristics of a medieval soldier’s uniform.
Write a list of the characteristics of a medieval civilian’s costume.
You are probably doing this homework at home but you could have
done it in school. List three advantages of doing this work at home. List
three advantages of doing this work at school instead.

WORK TO DO IN WEEK 1
Produce sheet 1 showing:
1. Hand drawn design for soldier.
2. List of characteristics of a medieval soldier’s uniform.
3. List of characteristics of the uniform that you have designed.
Produce sheet 2 showing:
4. Hand drawn design for civilian.
5. List of characteristics of a medieval civilian’s costume.
6. List of characteristics of the costume that you have designed.
WORK TO DO IN WEEK 2
Produce sheet 3 showing:
7. Printout showing that your soldier sprite has been saved as two
separate gif files.
8. Printout of your soldier gif images.
Produce sheet 4 showing:
9. Printout showing that the two versions of your civilian sprite have
been saved as two separate gif files.
10. Printout of your civilian gif images.
WORK TO DO IN WEEK 3
Finish off and then produce sheet 5 showing the list of three
advantages of doing this work at home plus the list of three advantages
of doing this work at school instead.
Then your final sheet 6 will include your evaluation for this project
stating what you did, how you did it and any problems you may have
had as well and what you enjoyed about this project.
Hand in sheets 1,2,3,4,5, 6 to your teacher. (Make sure that your name and
your teacher’s name is on each of the sheets)

Paint Shop Pro
Paint
Adobe Photoshop
Or you can use any other suitable software
Characteristics could include: colour, weight of costume, design, material
etc…
